When the bus service to the casinos was a big thing I looked at getting into it. A person much smarter than me who was already involved with buses...and looking to get out...talked me out of it.
People talking on the bus isn't bad. It's when they start throwing up, defecating all over the inside of the bathroom instead of in the toilet, throwing their trash all over the place, smoking and putting their cigarettes out on the upholstery, smoking dope and leaving their roaches on the floor.
Finding good bus drivers is difficult. Keeping them is impossible. I don't know what the buses pay now but they used to pay a small base salary and depended on tips from the passengers to make any real money. You can imagine how that worked out if a gambler lost everything and, according to my friend, they usually did.
He said the only fun he had was waiting until they were on their way home from Reno and waiting until some obnoxious drunk went into the bathroom. He'd be running down Feather River Canyon and really laying the bus into the turns. He said they handled like a big sports car. If he did it right and set up for the turns just right he could bounce the drunk off every wall in the bathroom with extra credit for a four rail shot. When he got his own buses he took it a little easier...but probably not much. -

OK got it, here is some really good advice you should at least look into.
Two companies have this thing called the Dock to Driver program, these two are UPS and FedEx. I would call them and get a job on the dock, UPS is more or less the best place because they are a union shop, this is good money and it has serious benefits. Once you get into the place, they can put you on the list for training and you get your CDL and experience on their dime.
So right now I am turning away good drivers, actually putting their apps on file, because I can get the better drivers due to this being a carrier's employment market, not a driver's one. As someone mentioned we do not have a driver's shortage, never had one since the mid-1970s. -
Most companies want a minimum of 3 - 6 months. Can you hang in there until you have 3 mos?bryan21384, Concorde and lual Thank this.
