Werner Team Driving

So im guessing that there is no more of this "Its what you make of it" its all just flat out bad.

Wow, Man I'm so sorry to hear all that bull*&^% you had to go through, And just wanted to drop you a line and let you know I'm thinkin werner also but I'm on the East Coast and after reading your story I'm starting to wonder. Did you go through their school for your CDL? If so you probably signed a contract ect.... I'll be getting mine from a private CDL school 8 week course, and if i go with them i'll just be an employee without worrying about paying anything back. Why did you not contact your Fleet Manager about all this? I have two weeks to make a Company selection, now i'm also thinking about placing an app in with Prime!

 

i got my cdl threw a school not by werner so no contract.i did contact my d/m about it and she told me to deal with it i only had 50 hrs left so i called safty and there responds was well he is a great driver/trainner and pretty much i was just a newbi lol.i also have talked to prime and there training pay starts at 600 a week which is almost double from what werner starts you at.the big question is do you want to run team or solo?werner is really pushing to be a team co again pretty much you have 2 drivers for the price of 1 makes sense but you gotta start somewere. just do your homework before you go with a co they all have pos and neg and with no exp its hard to get a job with a co.

 

OMG whats up with these Companies not calling after you put app in?
+5 on DVR / No felomies / No Tickets / Want's OTR (livin in truck & not married or have kids) / Graduating from a well respected TDS (8 week course)

Look I think the fact that most of us who are bringing no baggage into this career change and we still don't even get an e-mail thanking us for thinking of placing an app in with their Company. Shows that it's sometimes the powers that be in their own Co. are not qualified to place people in the positions that their in! You need a certain level of experience in dealing with not only the public (lets face it, some people DO NOT belong in a job working with the genral public in regard to Human Resouces) but in the proper proceedure of operating Co. Business.

I'm running team with werner at the moment and its alright but not the best. And I've out running 5 weeks and home a week. When your co driver is on hometime your out doing solo runs for a week. Sometimes the pay is good and at times its not. So far the most I have made was around 750 after taxes. I'm looking to get some experience and find something that pays more.

 

Thanks Cat- so are you with a trainer right now? I'm probably going werner in four weeks. As far as money, I've prepared myself for low funds in the beginning, for the most part i probably could live on 400 take home per week, but wanting to is another story

 

No I tested out in january. For the most part they seem like a pretty good company its just the pay I hate the most. And yeah they have their ups and downs.

 

I tested out in October 09 and I did the team thing, to be honest, the only benefit out of running teams is that if you start out with a crappy truck they will give you something new.

Id avoid running teams if possible, especially if your team mate's driving/ backing skills are not up to par. I would hardly get any sleep because my team mate would wake me up for the following reasons:
arriving at a consignee
backing into a dock, even with straight backing,
Locating a consignee
Not following the GPS directions getting him lost
Attempting to get out of a Mcdonalds that does not have truck parking. (it happened alot with him)

the last straw was when I finished driving for almost 10 hours during the night and I was dirt tired. he took over and when we arrived at the consignee 2 hours later he wakes me up to tell me that he arrived at the consignee and apparently he needed my help. after we MT'd out I was gonna go back to sleep. then he tells me "I'll wake you up when we get to the shipper which was an hour away. I had to tell him that when he is driving he handles everything and vice versa. He quit a month later, leaving me alone with a brand new pete.

I am now on the the sears dedicated account and to be honest I like it. its regional and im home every two weeks. some times during the weekend Im able to go take my 10 hours at home or I'll have my gf meet me by the DC and she joins me for a weekend run.

 

Ran team nearly 2 years with my son..we drove a white truck not a blue one..concept the same...team truckin' is tough,,trying to sleep, shower, do laundry and eating. Are all things that need more planning than with a solo driver.. 10 hr breaks in a moving trk. we ran coast to coast, plenty of miles (avg 6500 p/week) pay split not a good thing, but I got 18 cpm sleeping or driving.. We went back to solo so he could be home more often with his young daughter.. Yea..team truckin not for everybody...
Guess I'll be headed to Werner next week..after a two month search they are the only ones really doing much in the way of hiring in my area...So I guess what they do is what they do..I'm gonna have to roll with it..
I would like to know how they let you set your trk up..(ie.) can I have a lunch box cooker, do they have inverters preinstalled or will I need to provide one for them to install....I read in another post they aren't particularlly quick on this..I have a 12 volt refridgerator..(not a glorified cooler) . I plan to be out for several weeks at a time, and kinda like my truck to set up with the "goodies" after all this is the age of technology and such...bare bones truckin is a thing of the past....lol
