Apologies if this was already posted and I missed it (Didn't show up on a search though).
Looks like Skyline Transportation (Knoxville, TN) has shut down after 70 years.
Website down and FB page hasn't been updated since October.
Only thing I could find was this on a site called Orbitbid:
"After 70 years in business the owner of Skyline Transportation, Inc. has elected to shut its doors and sell this fleet of 100+ semi-trucks via online auction with Orbitbid. The auction will end Tuesday March 4, 2025. This is a well maintained and road-ready fleet of late model truck tractors."

    Chinatown and Concorde Thank this.

It's a scary time in Trucking. When fleets are going under after 70 years in business you got to wonder how many are really succeeding in the Trucking business? I've been catching some lucky breaks but definitely feeling the squeeze of the entire spot market now. Brokers don't care about you fuel costs and seem to holding strong after that average closer to $2 per mile and a few brokers are starting to complain about how many Customers are squeezing them on the other end. I'm thinking most of us under 10 or 1 truck carriers are surviving off of the less capacity when these larger fleets shutdown? It's questionable for those extra loads left on the boards? However, still unfortunate after 70 years in business to.have to shutdown.

We just went thru lane bids with a customer, found out a broker won two lanes we previously had from Indy to Laredo and Indy to San Antonio, they underbid us by $1,000 on each lane.

And I bet that broker has to now low ball the rate for a carrier running a older truck ducktaped up with their decals on a piece of cardboard written with a marker. Sad but true.

It's a major cutthroat business these days that's a guarantee.

They will get a someone who needs home loads down that way to run it I'm sure and still make a couple hundred bucks, I've seen loads from former customers on CH Robinson lately and they are offering it at half of what we ran it for or less in some cases. With one load they are offering Dayton to Houston for $1,200 and we were running it for $2,400-$2,600 3-4 years ago. It's amazing what rate you can quote when you don't have to pay for trucks, fuel, drivers, insurance, repairs.

This makes me think of Landstar. One agent says 2.06 a mile for a load, another posts the same load at 1.00 a mile. Complete nonsense. But as someone already said, there will be some noodle brained driver with a duct taped truck hauling these loads you speak of. Wouldn't be surprised if the driver can't speak a lick of english either.

Lotta noodle brained drivers never learn to set up the Landstar board to not show the bottom feeder/double brokered junk

I know this is an old thread but for future reference purposes, they were acquired by Titan transfer out of Shelbyville. Titan is keeping the terminal location and some of the trailers. Maybe a day cab or two, IDK. But all the sleeper trucks are either being sold or already gone.

I think most of the office staff are staying on and a lot of the drivers.
