So, you two think its because of drivers playin a joke? That may be part of the reason, but what about the drivers who use them when they are actually needed? Either way, you give someone something to complain about and they will complain about it. Its like someone who mentioned quite a while ago in this thread about the people who move out by the airport then whine about the noise from the jets.
As Ive mentioned before, my motor, exhaust and jake are about as quiet as it gets so 9 times outta 10, you wont even have a clue Im usin my jake.
Loud pipes are awesome but when it gets to the point where people start whining and moaning everytime you come through town, it really aint worth it anymore.
the unnecessary usage of j-brakes, why????

Nobody needs them to pull into a truckstop. or to slow down while they are already in the truckstop.

Speakin of which, in areas that dont specify (pretty much everywhere that doesnt have steep grades) jake restrictions, is the law referring to all jakes, loud or quiet or just the people who run straight pipe? -

There's kind of no point in using them in the middle of the night in a small town's residential area on a 2 lane road on flat land....
Anyway there is no law that I have ever heard of. However, there are laws regarding the noise levels for every vehicle on the road, and a grumpy cop could theoretically give you a ticket based on those laws. I've never heard of that though.
And those signs arent a law either. They're just signs. But there's always a state law that says you have to obey signs (otherwise they'd be pointless!).
Another way to show how stupid the signs are though...Ever driven a truck with a mercedes engine? The one i drove didn't have an engine brake, it had an exhaust brake....first of all, it wasn't very useful, second, it made almost no noise at all. -
Isuzu trucks and the newer Dodge Rams have those exhaust brakes too. Works great on the Ram except that it cuts off way to early but I bet you could have that adjusted. Not so great on the Isuzus.
I've known people that got ticketed for noise but it was loud car stereos and no mufflers. They never got me though. -
