I used to be an Estes driver a few years ago.
There should be current drivers that can answer
your questions better but they did not, so here
goes. Not a bad company, but I got a terminal
manager who was about the worst man I have
ever worked for and thats saying a lot.
There were about 3 main types of drivers. Road drivers
who got paid by the mile but made little when stopped,
Hub drivers who got paid less by the mile and clocked in
to work the dock for less than the third type P and D
drivers who usually delivered freight during the day on
the clock. There were also casual drivers but my
terminal had none of them.
I would recommend you ask a Winchester driver what
they think of their TM before you apply. If they say he
is a good man and don't look like they are lying go for
it.
Things have changed at Estes in the last few years so
if you work for them please correct my errors. -
Ok, I gotta ask, what Estes terminal was it and who was the TM?
The reason I ask is because I have a lot of family working for Estes, and one of them is a TM. He can be quite an interesting guy.... lol -
They require 3 yrs experience min., And a clean MVR
If I remember correctly, the lowest seniority guy at Winchester has like 15 yrs.
The TM that you spoke of can find out everything you need to know.
Most of the larger terminals are now taking driver apps (city and road)
The ones I know of:
St Louis
Colombus, OH
Nashville
Kansas City
Indianapolis
San Antonio -
I'm not a driver for them but I can tell you they are a forward moving company, financially secure, competative in the market place and pretty darn good to their employees. That's a lot these days.
-
Someday I may return to Estes, if he leaves. I can only hope
he forgets about several of us that quit because of him.
I will give you one more hint though. He had a heart attack
at a very young age.
-
Nope, that wouldn't be him.
I do know with my uncle, its a love/hate relationship. Some of the guys love him, a lot hate him. -
I hear there lay back, they don't pay OT,good CO to work for.
-
i work there they have been great to me some people that don't like them probably just was lazy if u do ur job they don't bother u
-
I had heard they used to have a policy against layoffs for the most
part. But they laid off most of the Drivers at the Salisbury MD terminal
last winter. The company does not appear to be quite as sound
financially as it used to be, probably due to the Recession and
rumers of poor investments.
