Throwing chains doesn't stop Swifty from sliding into knocking you off the side of the mountain
blairandgretchen, TurkeyCreekJackJohnson, bryan21384 and 2 others Thank this. -
In the winter the few gallons of fuel are less important than tow bills. I'd run on I-40tarmadilo, bryan21384, 201 and 1 other person Thank this.

Nothing wrong with staying right-side up. Good judgement is choosing not to put yourself in a situation where superb skill is the only thing on your side. "There are old pilots & bold pilots, bit not old & bold pilots." Make good choices.lual, Bean Jr., bryan21384 and 2 others Thank this.

Often times, it does kill you. But only once per person.
Go ahead and chance it, multiple times a day with all the crazy drivers out there and conditions that change by the minute.
Maybe that crazy driver is the one that simply has to be the brave one and 'keep on truckin''.
Maybe it is rocket science, because rocket science includes some amount of so-called common sense.bryan21384 and hope not dumb twucker Thank this. -
Not that many Swift drivers will be the cause of that. Swift actually likes drivers that shut down in those conditions.
14 year Swifty here. And I have not chained up since I was in training.
They love me for it, because of so many that try to impress with their 'skills' and wreck out and cost them a lot of money.
When in doubt, shut it down. No one at Swift will shame you for it... ever.Albertaflatbed, lual, Bean Jr. and 5 others Thank this. -
It’s those drivers that drive without a care in the world that end up in ditches jackknifed causing hrs of stopped traffic , stay safe everyone don’t try to be a super truckerbryan21384, hope not dumb twucker and Moosetek13 Thank this.

Aw, don't listen to them, I'd rather be a live wuss than a dead hero anyway. The big snafu seems to be I70 through Glenwood Canyon, always tense, but I have to say, Colorado DOT does an awesome job, but I can understand how you may feel. Since you are "going out", I'd go the southern route. You don't want anything going wrong on the WAY to California. Now, return delivery in Denver? That's a different story. The folks in Cal. I doubt will understand, where as Denver, it's regular business. Good luck.hope not dumb twucker, 88 Alpha and tscottme Thank this.

My problem is with high altitude. Being a lifelong heavy smoker I become very distressed even at 7,000 ft if I have to stop for any length of time. I’ve also lived my entire life at sea level.. I think my house is at 10’ above sea level, lol
Didn’t understand what was going on until a couple years ago when I shut down just west Laramie on 80 due to a closure. Woke up in total distress and almost called for an ambulance. Getting shut down around Vail for a closure would probably do me in.
Anyway, you got to base your decision on the weather this time of year. If going 200 miles extra gets you there on time then that’s what I’d do.
Even 15 to 80 is an option and if I remember correctly it’ll add about 60? Miles.
