Not being a CDL driver yet, I am wondering if wearing glasses is going to prevent me from attaining the CDL. I just read a CDL school web page that said you must have at least 20/40 with or without glasses.

With or without glasses to me reads that CDL holders can wear glasses when driving.

Sure are a bunch of us wearing them.

With glasses simply means your vision must be corrected to at least 20/40 with the glasses. So, you are allowed to wear them. :)

How about a lazy eye? Those don't correct but doesn't effect peripheral vision.

20/40 is correct! With or without glasses...so glasses are accepted.

    Incidentally, A. J. Foyt tested at 20/10.

Excerpt from D.O.T. Medical Exam Report for commerical drivers:

Standard: At least 20/40 acuity (Snellen) in each eye with or without correction. At least 70° peripheral in horizontal meridian measured in each eye. The use of corrective lenses should be noted on the Medical Examiner’s Certificate.

Does anyone know of a good online eye test that can be done without a printer?

Yeah. If you are sitting at a computer and reading this screen without your nose touching it, with or without glasses, then your eyesight is just fine. If you can look up and see the sun, with or without glasses, then you have a visual range of roughly 93 million miles.

The DOT standards are not that complicated.....

cnsper, Mr Ed and volvodriver01 Thank this.
