I can tell you this guys...as a Crete driver we do all we can to stay up on all maintenance with ouir trucks. I did my driving test in a 06 Century with about 400k on the clock. You could have eaten off the engine it was that clean. Instructor said that one was the oldest at that terminal and was due to be sold. You all will be getting some good trucks.
-
Not me per say but the older these trucks get the more time any driver will spend in a shop.

Wow, new(ish) trucks! I was in La Mirada on Friday and didn't see any of them, but I did see an O/O getting WS decals. I'd like to get one of the newer ones, but I have an 1800 series truck, so not sure if I'd get one or not...but mine seems to have a lot of "issues"...and it has over 610k on it. It's an '05 Volvo......
-
That was one of the trucks we got from Crete that you saw getting the decals...I brought it in there Friday morning.
-
Really?? It looked like it wasn't in that good condition....the paint looked kind of...oxidized. Did it have a cardboard WS "sign" taped to the side?
-
that was it...it was pretty oxidized but in pretty good shape for the most part....420K miles...

Snow in the mountains? Missoula,MT-learn how to read that truck atlas. You will be training in the western US Rocky Mountains. They have a thing called Chain Laws DUH? for a reason.Watkins Shep is the only company I am aware of that bothers to teach you how to chain up your truck if necessary. If the weather gets that bad and you never bother to monitor it en-route, you are a foolish driver.Chaining-up should be a last resort but a necessary skill to learn, if you become stuck in that weather.

I've noticed that oxidation on a lot of older Freightliners, even some of our 16xx Columbias. I've never noticed it on Volvos, though. I'd assume it's due to different finishing processes between the two manufacturers.
My Volvo, 1758, is an '05, built in December '04, with 575,000 on it. 72,000 of those are mine. My first Volvo here was another '05, 1772, and it had 501,000 on it when it went in for an overhead in Missoula and I got placed in this one. I'm happy with this truck and I'd be glad to keep it until they decide to retire it.Last edited: Apr 26, 2010
