I was given a load that was canceled in January on March 12, 2025. I went from a port with delivery only to be turned away. I was sitting with the load when I was told by the supervisor to take it back to the port, even though we had scheduled another load. I took the load to get started for the day, but having another pickup scheduled meant returning that load put us off schedule. I had to cancel the upcoming load and requested to be paid the load fee and an additional $50 for inconvenience. They told me to call the broker on Monday. The broker agreed to pay for the return but refused to pay the $50 for inconvenience. She laughed at me, and when I asked for a manager, she sent me to several other brokers, so I gave up. I spoke with client relations, who told me it would be three days before they could make a decision. We had already expended gas for two loads, lost a load, and no one could explain why this was not their issue. They were upset that I asked to be paid timely and redlined my company without explanation. Watch yourself with them....
Red lined for their mistake (TQL brokered load)

Your fault for not having YOUR terms agreed to in writing on the RC. When a broker is given an inch, they will take you a mile.

I did file within 1 day for detention. They refused. I don't see how any of this is my fault. I did a TONU. They refused and got angry when I insisted. So what other steps should I have taken. My rate com reads
TQL reserves the right to deny all additional charges
unless communicated in advance writing and invoiced to TQL within 90 days of load completion. All demurrage, detention, and per diem charges must be
communicated to TQL in writing within 30 days of load completion in order to validate and/or dispute with the steam ship line directly. Therefore, I will request from the shipper that they send 50.00 detention, it is all I can do. -
I suggest you take the time to search this site and learn how to run a business instead of a charity.
Letting brokers run your business is never in your best interest. Essentially, you need to have your terms for TONU, detention, layover etc etc in writing added to the RC or you'll never get paid for them.
Once you have it in writing (preferably on the RC) they are legally bound to pay you and if they don't you can file a claim on their surety bond.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
Tql is scum. Quit using them

I would have negotiated the terms before I ever agreed to return it to the port.

This is TQL doing TQL shenanigans. Be glad that they're paying you for the return trip at all.
