John passed I-77 with the sign pointing to Charlotte the other night in Columbia was thinking of making a little detour and paying you a visit. Had a pretty good week. I am looking foward to running the Golden Rectangle of Savannah 2 Beaufort loaded, Dead Heading from Beaufort to Charleston, then from Charleston to Columbia loaded, Then Dead Head to N. Augusta, Then N. Augusta back to Savannah. It is like 450 miles with over 300 loaded, IT pays.
It took me 13 hours to run it but I think I can shave 2 hours off that time once I get my loading privalges and learn the lay out of Columbia. Then con my manager into giving me a local when I get back. I am enjoying the challenage of doing it in a 12 hour shift when my co-workers say it can't be done. Tell me I cant do something, shooot they don't whi there fooling, I AM SMOKE CAN-DO MAC GOSH DARN IT. I love taking on a challenage and over coming said challenage. Then tasting the sweet taste of victory once I kick that said challenage right in the seat of its pants

Looks like my ole friend is "primed for perfection" ... in other words ... you can probably do it if nothing goes wrong ... no work needs to be done to the truck, you don't have to wait at any terminal, you don't get behind farmer John who wants to go 40 mph and you have no way to get around him, you don't hit a detour ... etc ... etc ... etc ... and Murphy's Law doesn't know who you are

I used to run like that and in fact I still creep up on 400 miles per night on a fairly regular basis ... but it is still pretty hard because they tend to run me to points south around Dillon and Florence and Bishopville and the shortest route to get there seems to run right down Hwy 74 ... the 34 miles from Paw Creek to Monroe is laden with about 40 stoplights which can't be dealt with successfully except after midnight when they put most of the lights on contact. Heck ... you could run straight down 485 Outer Loop to I -77S to Hwy 34 to I-20 towards Florence ... but you are simply substituting stopping at more traffic lights for driving alot more miles. But if there is a standard nights work for me ... I guess it would be a Dillon, a Charlotte and a Monroe which would come out to about 348 miles, load three times and drop three times and deal with way over 150 stoplights. Union county was supposed to be the fastest growing county in the United States until the recession hit ... don't know if that is still true today but I can tell ya that it is still wall to wall, bumper to bumper mayhem any way you look at it ... and almost all my loads go down that way because we keep the truck in Monroe.
But 450 miles on an interstate is absolutely do-able as long as you stay out of Mr Murphy's cross-hairs. We've run quite a few loads to Columbia and that town is not to hard to get a fix on it with a good map and a good profile sheet .... but with CSA2010 coming in you will need to keep that truck up to snuff.
Here's wishing you all the luck in the world ... and an understanding day shift driver

Well I will only be picking up at 3 terminals, the only termianal I see having problems at is Hess in Charleston, by the time I get up to N. Augusta it is after Mid Night. I hit traffic on the way out of Savannah for about a half of mile. On 17 I see potential problems on them 2 lane roads. I don't hit the out skirts of Carleston until after 930 PM no problems there. It is all interstate from Charleston to N. Augusta. I see myself traveling down to Savannah between 1 and 4 O'clock when Farmer John is just getting up for the night.
Like you said just got to make sure I keep Murphy's back side in the yard -
I am an extrucker but worked mostly in the Atlanta region. I agree that they are a good company as I know a number of guys that worked for them in the past.

Ahoy lads and shiver me timbers, but what do we have here ... Looks like a new buzzard ... uhhhh Eagle driver. Aye me hearty ... tis a great and grand ship ye be embarkin' upon ... the good ship Eagle ... the great and glorious flagship of those who are a cut above the unwashed masses ... and by the powers that be ... from here on out ye be a buccaneer who answers to no man nor blasted goverment. The doubloons ye earn on the flagship Eagle be yours and yours alone ... only to be shared on that last day with yer mates should ye fall prey to the elephant and join Davy Jones in his infamous locker ... that biscuit eatin' scurvey dog.
But until that day, Matey Mike ... ye be formally welcomed to the sweet trade of gas haulin' ... and may ye be the grand pilot of a whole squadron of tankers over the years ... loaded to the gunwales with scores of bonny lasses ... fallin' all over themselves ... desirin' yer riches ... wantin' to rub yer chest and shake yer hand under the great Jolly Roger. WELCOME ABOARD MATE!!!

Hey SmokeMac, I just move to savannah ga.Anybody hiring around here.I got TX endorsment. Thanks in advance.

You might want to try Kenan, momentarly they have all the frieght. I keep seeing adds for FED-EX Freight if you want to do LTL. Also have seen adds for Horizon tank lines, they are a regional chemical hualers. The container carriers are also always hiring but that is real cut throat.

I ran my Golden Rectangle of Savannah 2 Beaufort loaded, Dead Heading from Beaufort to Charleston, then from Charleston to Columbia loaded, Then Dead Head to N. Augusta, Then N. Augusta back to Savannah loaded.
The Bad since I didn't have loading privalges at Hess I had to BS the operator into letting load myself. Since he wasn't computer savey it took him over 2 hours to input me into the system. Therefor pusing me back 2 hours that I didn't have to spare. Thusfor causing me to inconviance my daytime driver to start 1.5 hours late. My most humblest applogies to him. It took me 14 hours with pretrip and post trip to complete the Golden Rectangle.
The good I now have loading privalges at Hess Charleston. I made over $250 running the Golden Rectangle. I should be able to cut it to 2 hours off.Last edited: Apr 28, 2010
