Just a reminder. CBP has the right to search your personal belongings, including what is on your phone.

It seems that if they find anything that could be construed as critical of the current US administration you might be denied entry.

'Deplorable': French scientist denied US entry over text messages criticising Trump

“This measure was apparently taken by the American authorities because the researcher’s phone contained exchanges with colleagues and friends in which he expressed a personal opinion on the Trump administration’s research policy,” the minister said.

My company just put out a message saying make sure you throw out your garbage before getting to the boarder . I’m guessing someone had their cab searched and they went through his garbage and found something .They also said a driver said they are searching the inside of your truck and you can’t watch but have to wait inside. So glad i don’t do boarder crossings anymore .

Nothing new about that. Hasn't happened to me in a long time but always approach the border with time to spare.

Correct. You wait in the building. They can also go through any digital device you have, phone, Qualcomm, and whatever tablet you use.

They did that on my phone. They requested my passcode and then played with the phone for 6 hours. After that i had to hard reset it because it was unusable

Just a reminder also, any meme's or "#### trudeau" pictures or anything like that, can land you a charge re-entering Canada. I haven't been across the border since 2022, so I wasn't aware how bad its gotten. But just talked to some guys who quit OTR last month, and are doing dump with us now. They said you're phone is their number one focus now, and people are getting all kinds of flags and charges for political content. What a time to be alive.

Keep in mind that freedom of speech in Canada is not absolute. Certain books have been banned, and Lèse-majesté is still a 'thing' there, so no insulting the sovereign, either! Not even in Quebec.
Also, another thing that keeps getting Americans in trouble at the border is pepper spray; it is considered a controlled weapon in Canada, and trying to bring it across the border will get your entry refused.

It’s suggested using a burner phone when crossing as information on your phone may have you detained while waiting deportation. It depends on the border guard,,it’s totally discretionary. Some may have a hard on for you while i know at our local border crossing people are being greeted with overwhelming friendly attitudes from border guards on both sides
