Placarding conflict

I would say 1993 - but if it was me I would make a call to the safety department for clarification

 

It's been a while for me but I would think that since 1993 diesel is what's on and the majority, I'd use the 1993.

 

I’d keep a last contained for the gas hole and stay 1203

 

I leave 1203 on when I do this.

You need to leave placards on a trailer until it is washed or reloaded. And you are allowed to display only the placard of the lowest flash point product. So, if you have an empty compartment of gas that has not been washed or reloaded, you must display 1203.

 

Do you know that gasoline vapours are more flammable than the liquid itself? That 1203 placard must remain in place even when it’s empty until it is washed or flushed with diesel. Also both placards must be in place.

 

You can over placard 1203 but not reverse. From the old days where fuel was a combustible.....

This is what we were taught when I learned how to haul fuel. It felt funny going down the road with 1203 placards in the same situation as OP, but they never said a word about it during multiple DOT inspections.

 

Seems to be some leeway for fuel trailers.
Chemical is another story. If that compartment is empty and hasn’t been washed out the placard stays and you must have a copy of the BOL showing last contained.
