I met a Werner recruiter today, he sure talked a good game. Does anybody know if they really have that many 9-speed transmission trucks??
There was only one Freightliner model listed with a 10-speed, we were told at school that not too many companies used 9-speeds anymore.

I drove for them up until December and every truck I had was a 9 speed. I think they all are 9speeds with the 9th gear being automatic. They only time I drive a 10 speed with them is when I had a owner opt for a trainer.

Bottom line, Mike?
There is less of a demand for drivers than there ever has been. They can use ANY reason to fire you, particularly after you invested your hard earned (or borrowed) money into their school. I would suggest seeking legal advice to discover what any of your options at this point would be. -
The very short time I was there, 10/2007-2/2008, the trucks had a 10 speed. It was called a top two. You manually shifted into 9th, and it would automatically shift into and out of 10th depending depending on engine speed.
These transmissions could be converted to a real 13 speed if the truck was sold.

How long were you there and why did you leave?
-
Yep.....I drove a truck with that tranny in it. I DESPISED it, it seemed to bump into/out of 10th gear at odd moments. Irritating.

Werner started ordering 8 speeds instead of 9 speeds as of 2010 model year. you will most likely get a 9 speed truck unless you drive teams. 9 speed is a POS.
Werner daycabs are 10 speeds but they are phasing them out for "super daycabs" -
thats a NINE SPEED. The granny gear dont count. Totally different shift pattern from a real 10, because in a 10 you use the granny gear in top range.
and tens also have more usable and useful ratios... -
Yeah it's a generic automatic
I started in a Super 10, then a straight 10. Then I had a 13 which I liked best. Now I'm stuck in a 9, but it's a pulling monster with the ISX. Most companies are going with 9's now because they supposingly have a better resale value with the 13 conversion option.

Yeppers, it was a bit on the odd side until you got used to it. Seemed I was always looking at the tach whenever it shifted. LOL
