    Hello all,
I had a really bad experience last Monday. I parked at a planet fitness in belleville, MI to workout. Before I leave my truck great lakes towing comes and hook their truck to my semi and lifts it I came outside and asked them to stop. They took both axles out and didn’t let me go back in my truck without giving them the keys. They asked for $1200 cash on the spot or they tow it and asked to bring $3500 to recover. I called police and they said they can’t do anything. I had to pay $3500 to recover the truck and had to make a service call for axles which cost $900. My truck was impounded for no reason. Unfortunately, I don’t had a dash cam in my truck. Did anyone been through the same situation, if there’s anything we can do to stop that predatory towing? Can I file a complaint against them or sue them for towing my semi truck while I was inside the truck?
    Thank you

Use the jog from the Truck Stop to Planet Fitness as the warm up to your workout.

    Cheap cardio, don't cost 4400$.

I guess Uber would work if you're lazy.

You can file dozens of complaints, and sue the bejeebers out of them. Probably won't get anywhere.

Was the lot marked with "No Truck Parking" signs? Maybe you should have informed Planet Fitness of the situation, and that was your truck.

    Silly Lonesome,

Don't you know it's never their fault, it's always someone else's fault.

I can tell you how to get it to stop, but I won't tell you on the internet. That is some BS and it happens all the time. Gives towing people a bad name. Society should not put up with that. That is not towing, it's crime.

There are specific rules (each county having its own regulations) on how a towing company is to steal your vehicle or extort money from you.

Contacting the local sherriff's office and regaling with your tale may yield results.

Just curious, you parked the truck, and before you could get out (of the truck) a tow truck pulled up and hooked up to your truck , didn't you see the tow truck arrive, and back up to your truck ?

That happens in many states and cities.
Memphis is just one example. Tow truck driver actually threw human feces on the driver while the driver was sitting in the drivers seat.

Seems strange. Took both axles out? They towed without removing driveshafts? Towing where they cause damage is sue able. They had a tow truck within 2 blocks capable of towing a semi/trailer loaded? WOW. Or even naked tractor. As I got older the options of my youth are both more, and less useable. Document everything. Nite a lawyer in that area. *I assume you have nobody within 60 miles* to take pictures, video of location, signs, if parking lot question employees if they called, find who has contract…. Be ready to spend $10k. But if you win you should get money back, hopefully including your legal costs.
If I had thought of it. Once truck to safety. Hire uber to film location, talk to employees *record on your phone* at minimum go to local news websites. Try to get them interested. IF you were on property of PF. You have employees state they gave permission for semi tractor to park on lot. Call Police, do online theft report. Be polite, ask, find legal help free/cheap in area.
My sis got her rental car impounded out West. Called for help. Once she got actual info…. I told her to “pay the fine” She was in the wrong. Her son had told her “you can’t park there during sporting events”.
It was something like. “No Parking 30 minutes before until 30 minutes after sporting events. Violators will be towed”. Somehow this masters degree, still taking college courses at 60 figured as 45 minutes before game start she could park so close for FREE.
Not trying to insult you. But checking signs.
I got a ticket for parking my pickup truck, cattle trailer *empty* at my sister’s overnight. I went to PD in AM. Seems there are signs “no street parking midnight to 6am”. I asked where? Seems there are signs sign on main road had bern gone over 8 months. My sis knew but not something she thought of. Ticket got excused. Iirc $25. Reason for rule? With strait face Officer said to stop crime. Mainly burglars. 1980…

Sooner or later, the tow truck operator is going to run into someone who will really fight back, in the most brutal way. Truth be told, the tow truck driver is asking for it. Also, Memphis, all around, is a tough high crime city, also know for it's homicides.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

The absolute sheer driving force of our national economy - without truck drivers, our entire national economy would come to an absolute standstill - if not outright be dead.

Over the mountains, through the woods, into the valleys, coast to coast, from sea to shining sea - truck drivers can and do go anywhere and everywhere, every day, every night, all year round.
