How do you admit to other drivers your dog is trans?

Glad to see you’re still with them. I was wondering if you were or not. I’m friends (more like brothers) with a couple of your co-workers there.
    Continue doing great things there!!

Eh, I guess I’ll be finding out shortly.

I fly out Monday for orientation Tuesday at the truck’s location. After that, the plan is to work my way back home toward the end of May so I can pick up my son for the summer — as long as they don’t “Freymiller” me, I’ll be fine.

At Freymiller, there were 16 of us in orientation. By month two, only two of us were left. Every week checks were $200–$300, with some version of, “You messed something up,” “It’ll be on the next check,” or “You finished the load at 6 PM, but payroll cutoff was 5 PM.”

I’ve had my CDL for around 20 years, and I’m used to being one of the top earners wherever I go. At JB Hunt, I was told more than once I was one of the top company drivers, and I have screenshots of driver boards where I was #1. Same type of thing at Hub Group. At Marten, I averaged over $1/mile effective. At Penske, I was doing $100K+ a year in a day cab, covering team routes when needed, and helping keep routes moving when they had gaps.

I’m not the driver who goes into the office acting annoyed or giving them ammo to use against me. I work, document, communicate, and keep moving.

I’ve also learned not to panic when drivers start talking doom and gloom. At JB Hunt, drivers were telling me I should look elsewhere because accounts were supposedly being lost left and right. Then they found out my dad also worked there and had already been driving for them for about 10 years, and the story changed.

Day one, I was already helping him with the computer system even though I had never used it before. Once they realized how tech-savvy I was, they had me beta testing the new system. When it rolled out, I ended up training other drivers on it too.

Penske drivers told me the same kind of doom and gloom. Hub Group had similar moments. I stayed through account changes, transfers, and shutdowns, and in some cases it paid off — including a $7K stay bonus at Hub before transferring to intermodal.

I’ve trained fresh-out-of-school drivers on shifting, mountain driving, trip planning, paperwork, company policies, and the computer side of the job. I’ve also trained experienced drivers who were new to a company, account, route, or system.

I’ve done local, regional, OTR, reefer, dry van, intermodal, multi-stop grocery, liftgate, EPJ, snow, mountains, tight docks, and problem routes — not everything, but enough to know when a company is solid and when something is off.

All I know right now is this: my youngest turns 11 in two days, and he finally gets to go on the road with me like his 20-year-old brother and 18-year-old sister got to do when they were younger.

That part means more to me than anything. Money isn’t everything, but I’m also not going to work for peanuts. I made close to $500K over the last four years driving, and I also own automated online businesses, so I’m not out here desperate — I’m looking for the right fit.

I want solid miles, fair pay, decent equipment, and a company that does what it says it’s going to do.

Now we’ll see how this next chapter goes.

    Thank you!
Funny thing is, I never really used forums to post — I mostly just read. I’ve used this site off and on as a lurker for probably over a decade, but never thought to actually make an account until today.

I’m more of a read-and-research type than a forum poster, even though I’ve been using the internet since the dial-up AOL days.

    mjd4277 and ethos Thank this.
