Coast to coast drive is 3000 miles. The average car driver drives 12k - 15k miles per year. A summer vacation is hardly noticeable for most cars.
nextgentrucker and wulfman75 Thank this. -

I got tired of the garmin units bricking on me. Happened on a 710 and an 800. Boom just locked up after 1-2 years. Couldn’t clear them. Nothing. Just crappy hardware with a decent truck map. I think the 800 I bought was $750
I bought an iPad mini and put trucker path on it. About the same cost as my 800. $500 for the iPad with cell, and $250 per year for trucker path. Amortized over three years I save about $250 compared to garmin. Plus I can watch movies and actually do work on it.
The iPad mini mounts on my dash in a 67 designs unit. It’s designed for pilots. Holder for Apple iPad Mini 6/7 - with CaptivePencil™
It doesn’t rattle, fall off, come loose etc. I’ve had more than enough issues with the crap truck stops sell. Mines set up to hold my phone as well.
On my phone I run google maps for traffic updates and user reports for hazards and cops. I also run Hammer on my phone to double check.
There’s a lot of other reasons why I use what use but that dives down into the minutiae of how I trip plan and where I want to stop.Zoltan1a, kemosabi49, nextgentrucker and 2 others Thank this. -
I just use Google maps on my iPhone. If I run over something, Noo biggie!otterinthewater, nextgentrucker, hope not dumb twucker and 1 other person Thank this.
