Now a days if you have direct customers you're in a good standing as a trucking business. Keeping those direct customers is another job within it self because theirs tons of one truck chucks trying to obtain the same customer basis.

Interesting discussion.
Pizza places go out of businesses all the time too. Some remain in business for years, selling pizzas for the same cheap pizza prices. Who knows why some make it while others don't. The question is, if there should be an entry threshold to limit the influx of new MC numbers but skillwise, there's no justification. If a guy buys himself a broom and dust pan why can't he be in the house cleaning business, if someone wants to pay him?
If you want to be "protected" you should establish business reliant on expertise, for instance, the yacht building. No very likely that the 3rd World influx of migrants will jeopardize it. -
So if you're an Anglo heritage American and want to buy a gas station but are bidding against say an Indian immigrant. Say you both have the same credit, income and money down. He qualifies for an average of $200k in minority business grants that you don't qualify for.
Ever wonder why after spending years stacking cash and building credit to buy your first used truck that new arrival who still hasn't learned his first word of English is next to you with brand new equipment?
Ever wonder about that? The American guy spent decades building up that small fleet while Vladimir in Chicago has a terminal and a fleet of new Volvo's ready to roll.
All these comments assumes a level playing field, a pure meritocracy but that's not the case.Last edited: Apr 30, 2025

I felt I should fess up. I was owner of product. I had been offered a few hundred more for load at location A. But I understood it was for location B. About +20 miles closer. But as owner I made decision to sell, lose the extra $125 on load. I had plenty on hand to meet commitments so took load to correct place. Then 2nd. They were happy. So 40 miles closer shorter round trip, +$125 better pay. Win/win.
Yes hindsight I should have had then load back when I realized. But both places will take as much as I can make. I could haul 4 loads a day, 5 days for a week. But I can’t maintain that rate.Iamoverit Thanks this. -
Is that the case?
I don't know anything about such grants.
Do you have any sources to back it up?
Are those grants even real? $200k sounds crazy, and you're saying that's average.
I have seen a few exotic looking drivers sitting in newer trucks but I assumed they were company drivers, perhaps brought on those H2A visas. -
Link to anything about a $200k grant? Who funds them?Opus Thanks this.

It's amazing how absolutely clueless the average White man is about being discriminated against in every single way thanks to the feds.
They just keep on "voting' and proudly waving the same Yankee flag that disenfranchises them from all sides. It's like they've never filled out an employment application before.
I guess these so-called carriers have never tried to get a government hauling contract either because it's stated in writing that everyone gets preference over the White man.
Those things really crack me up. They drone on about how they don't discriminate yet they demand to tell them your race so they can literally use it against you if you're White.larry_minn, Gearjammin' Penguin, Bret1984 and 1 other person Thank this. -
No need to fess up to me, my friend. You put your business needs before the customer. I get it. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do.
Some of us would have charged more from the start and put the customer's needs before our own.
In the end, the customer gets what they pay for. Low rates get low priority service. High rates get white glove top priority ### kissing service.Bret1984 Thanks this.
