Hey all. Im kinda relatively-new to the trucking industry. Got my CDL-A Aug2023, tried one-week apiece for a couple different companies, then spent @ 1.5yrs chauffeuring older-family members; Now looking to get back into trucking, and thinking of just starting my own trucking company (including getting my own new authority) instead of going with a mega-carrier or another illegit company.
I'm curious what brokers work with new-authorities. Ive heard TQL & CH Robinson do, but heard only bad things about these two. Im not yet sure what type of trailer i want to go with; DryVan/Reefer, Flatbed/flatbed-variant, or Intermodel (i already have TWIC, live close enough to a major seaport, and new Intermodel chassis'/trailers are cheaper than other used flatbed/reefer/dryvan trailers within like 500miles of my home).
Thank you very much for your help! Greatly appreciated

As far as the finances, its entirely dependent on how much I can get from investors. The majority of these individuals/couples hold me in higher regards and know me as someone who is nice, hard-working, and willing to sacrifice personally so i can succeed professionally. A part of that is more than just "having all my ducks in a row"; I try to make sure each feather on every duck is legit and looks good.
As far as "where home is", I'm in California. Ports of SanDiego, LosAngeles/SanPedro, and Oakland/SanFrancisco are all within range. And i dont mind relocating, if necessary.
However, i just heard earlier today that Asian-exporters might be reducing their cargo to the US by like 25-35%, so going Intermodal might not be the best idea at this time for me.
Thanks again for any/all assistanceLast edited: May 1, 2025

Your finances are dependent on how much you can get from investors? LOL
You're obviously not ready for truck ownership.

Who in their right mind would want to invest with someone who has several weeks experience in an industry? I am not saying you aren’t the hardest working, nicest, most willing to sacrifice person any of those couples know. I am saying you have a terrible investment option for these couples. I am someone who invests heavily in the market, but I wouldn’t invest a dime with anyone, to do anything in trucking. Trucking has made me a great deal of money, but the return on investment doing what the couples you know are planning will be minimal at best.
