Been a while so I have to ask, does the points make contact with the condenser or it have a wire from the condenser to the points? Condenser itself may be bad….

I was a scant lad probably around 5 ish or so. Dad had a 67 Chevrolet ton cab chassis 292 4 speed. Any way it went to running poorly and he done the standard tune up on it I guess I can’t say for sure. I do know that this particular deal was one of the few things in life I seen wool his ### around. He had a gift for being right the first time. At any rate this went on several days and for what ever reason he was walking to the shade tree (this was before we had a shop so for sure pre 1978) and he reaches down and picks something up which I later found out was a deal he called a condenser. It was ####ed up I could see that. He put er on his ol trusty steed and she bang she was fixed. My point is I gotta agree with @OLDSKOOLERnWV it be worth a poke

I'll try it when I get back home. I'm not sure what that assembly is called, but I figured it was likely the coil, and that bass tard is riveted on.

But the condensor would be a cheap and easy try. Honestly, I just don't know what the condensor does

I’m not 100 percent sure either. We were running HEI on everything by time I started driving except that ol ton truck. I hated that thing. No power steering no power brakes. That 3 spoke wheel would murder your thumb if you left it inside the wheel when it centered after a turn. Them 18 inch lock ring wheels I wasn’t a fan of either. And reverse was over to the left and down not to the right. But that sucker would tote a load of wood now I’m here to tell ya.

The condenser cuts down on arcing at the points protecting them and speeds the voltage collapse at the coil giving a better spark. Thanks Dad.
