    if your drivers can't figure out how to plan their own trips, then you need to find drivers who can.

    " P L A N " ? Going from point A to Point B requires a plan?

    Something I have yet to actually grasp the concept of.
    You load you GO! why is there now some "concept" involving "technicalities" in moving freakin freight?

    Microsoft Streets and Trips DOES "have that option", you just need to learn how to use it.

    Once you have your START and END points and have run your route; click on ROUTE, then click on MORE OPTIONS. You will see a 5-TAB window.

    1. In the 1st TAB (PROFILE) you set your estimated START and END times. I always use a "10 HOUR" driving day. You can also configure this to stop for 10 hours after driving 10 hours to give you your mandated 10 hour breaks.
    2. Click on DRIVING SPEED to adjust your estimated speed with the "sliders". The sliders are slower to faster. I use just less than the middle mark.
    3. Click on FUEL Tab. You can set your estimated fuel mileage and tank capacity. You can also set your "re-fuel warnings" here as well.
    4. Click on COSTS and you can estimate your fuel cost using price per gallon or by using an estimated "fixed" cost.
    5. In SEGMENTS, you can decide to use FASTEST, SHORTEST or PREFERRED ROADS (and set your "preferred" roads)
    Click OK, and the program will let you know about where to stop each day.

    For example; I used a "trip" from Nashville to Portland OR.
    I set the program to drive 10 hours a day (starting at 9am day 1) and stop for 10 hours after driving.
    My first overnight stop is on I-29, near Corning MO (exit 99)@661 miles.
    Second overnight is near Riner WY (I-80 exit 195) just west of Rawlins # 1355 miles.
    Program warns to RE-FUEL on I84 near Devils Slide UT @1590 miles, and since we know there probably isn't going to be a truckstop in the area, we plan ahead to fuel in Rawlins, Ft Bridger or Evanston WY.
    Third overnight is on I84 near Baker OR @2059 miles.
    Arrive Portland next day: 2354 miles; 3 days 4 hours 15 minutes total estimated time/34 hours 15 minutes estimated drive time.
