    Hi folks,
New driver here (sort of). I drive all local, I don't need logs, I never go more than 100 miles from where my truck lives. Tomorrow I have to go past Idaho Springs, CO on I-70. I know there is a scale there. My question is, do I have to stop and weigh? My truck is under 26K. I do have a DOT number. I am engaging in commerce. I've never been inspected at a scale before. If I have to stop can anyone tell me what I can expect as far as inspection?

    Thanks!

Under 26k I’d go full send. But it’s also Sunday tomorrow and there’s a good chance it’ll be closed.

I ran the 70 a lot back in 21. Seemed to me, when it was open, there was always too many trucks in line so they'd bypass you to keep from backing up on the highway.

On the other hand, there were a lot of trucks that got pulled in.
It is just the luck of the draw.

The one time I did get pulled in was EB going to Denver. The officer just did a paperwork drill. But all them where really good folks. No attitudes and I actually learned a thing or two, more like 20. Winter was approaching, I had many questions on the chain laws and parking/shutdown situation. They gave me so much knowledge I left feeling very prepared for winter over the Rockies .

Well I think it was like 3 or 4 trucks and it was full. Lol Very small area. Maybe if Op just runs in the tailend of a pack he can ensure his luck!

    When in doubt, stop.

Its cheaper than the ticket for not stopping...

I drove back and forth across there 3 times this week but 2 of those were at night when they’re closed anyway . It was also closed Thursday afternoon.

The eastbound scale has been closed for construction for a while now.

One of my steers is bald AF and I got a drive that's way out of date. My paperwork and med is all current so no issue there. I have a new chassis I'm moving to, but I'm still a week or so out from being able to move the body over. I don't want to spend a grand or more on tires on a truck that's going straight to auction. Maybe I'll just load everything I need into a pickup just for today, and move faster on that newer chassis this week :)
