Well I had my first experience at the Navajo Yard in denver last night. Why do all companies have to make fueling complicated at the terminals. I definately felt like i needed a seat on the short bus or instantly overnight become a rocket scientist to figure out how to fuel at the Navajo yard. I pull up to the pumps and locate the card reader, select the corresponding pumps for tractor and reefer and presto no fuel. so i try it againg with the same result nothing happening. So i walk to the safety shack at the entrance and talk to the guard but he knows nothing on how it works go ask dispatch,:biggrin_25521: OK! like they would know so i walk into the drivers room which is nice and ask the first driver i see. Well that back fired to he said he didnt know because he never fuels here its to complicated, YOU THINK!!! but luckily the driver next to him knows so here here is the some what process to fuel at the navajo yard.:biggrin_25521:

    1. turn off truck and remove key from ignition.

    2. make sure you reset counter.

    3. make sure light switch thingy located on the lower portion of wall, trace conduit to locate because its not marked is in the off position.

    4. swipe comdata and type in required info.

    5. run back to light switch and turn it to on position and presto the pump turns on.

    6. remove fuel caps from tanks

    7. remove pump handles and fuel truck

    8. after fueling hang pumps back up and replace caps on fuel tanks.

    9. place light switch in off position.

    10. fueling complete.

well i tried to do the same process on pump 2 for the reefer fuel with the cooresponding light switch and the pump one switch as well but nothing happened, i had 3/4 in the reefer tank so i said screw it and left. :biggrin_25521: Their yard is big with lots of parking and i barely got to see the driver room so i will have to report on the amenities the next time i am at the yard with a little time to look around. Have been with my company long enough now to rate a vacation. Taking 9 days off. The paid 5 plus my 4 days HT. Think I'll look into getting a TWIC. Have ordered a copy of my DAC/USIS/Hireright report and also think I'll do resumes. Companies in my area seem to be hiring again.
Also plan to take the niece and nephew camping 1 weekend. Maybe the zoo and planitarium also.

I used to live in Utah, my DL is still a Utah one, and I have never 'officially' transferred my living address to where I am now, in Dallas...

So I am wondering about the company out of Idaho that you said provides training.. Well, you and several others, at least. Would I have to find my own way back to Northern Utah, before they would be willing to transport me to them? The woman I spoke to, after hearing I had a clean driving record, and no criminal history gave the impression that I would be very welcome IF I lived in Utah.

In all technicality, me living down here could be considered 'Visiting my Fiance', really, and for some reason there seems to be a shortage of Truck driving schools and/or Companies that provide training nearby, something I find very, very odd for such a large city.

I'm sure you have better things to do, but on this thread you offered assistance/information to any who needed it, so I figured I'd see if there was anything you could offer to someone trying to get into the Industry.

I've done a lot of research, over many years, and I know (Generally at least) what to expect, good and bad, from trucking, so I'm not walking into anything blindly. But right now, here, my best option thus far is Swift, and while they provide schooling and accommodations, I've heard so many bad things that I'm not sure it's worth it, even if it IS a way to get my foot in the door.

Admittedly, I'm desperate, since I'm stuck at a dead-end job making $800 a month if I'm LUCKY. :biggrin_2553: But the last thing I want is to start out with a company that will make other companies, later on, want nothing to do with me, no matter how good my record is.

Thanks a ton for any help or assistance you (Or any others here) may be able to provide.

Road Jackal, I live in OKC and they couldn't guarantee me any HT on a reasonable level. Customer base and all. They mentioned Phoinex to me as the only place in the south they could guarantee.
In the Dallas area, Stevens has a training center and if Schnieder has opened back up to students, they also have training there. Good luck in your search.
