For the most part, it's an Age of Information 'problem', coupled with changing demographics.
Statistically, there are more of these types of attacks now than there were 40 years ago. When controlled for total population, the likelihood of being involved in a violent incident has dropped since 1990.
Trees fall in the forest all the time, but we don't hear them. There was a lot more violent crime in the 70s, 80s, and 90s than today, but beyond the 9 o'clock news no one heard about them. The very sensational would get a few days conversation at the water cooler before folks would move on. And that's for what was actually reported to police and picked up by the news. Most incidents passed unremarked, particullarly because they were so widespread. In today's environment, there is an ease of communicating incidents to outlets that can boost the story. Couple that with a decrease in editorial control and ZERO space/time restrictions and we have rage bait central. 30 years ago this would have made local news, nothing more.OldeSkool, Sirscrapntruckalot, ElmerFudpucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
More fortunately, Brad Schimel isn't going to be responsible for prosecuting the perp. Schimel would plea him out for disorderly conduct. If the perp's attorney was a donor Brad would probably offer him a job at a youth correctional facility.OldeSkool, Big Road Skateboard, ElmerFudpucker and 1 other person Thank this.
