I've always found it's easier to teach a cowboy how to drive a truck than to teach a truck driver how to handle cattle. And honestly, at 55 your age is also gonna be an impediment. That said, anything can happen if you want it badly enough, and working at a few salebarns every week will get you some experience and let you meet some people who might be able to help you. I wouldn't do it for free, though. If they need somebody, they should pay you. Good luck.
wore out, RockinChair, Sirscrapntruckalot and 1 other person Thank this. -

There are a lot of livestock carriers in Hereford and Friona, and there are several scattered around South Texas as well. Unfortunately I don't know of anything near Ennis. Check your PMs.d o g Thanks this.

There’s more to it than loading and unloading. That’s really the easy part as if your loading feeders on a farm do what the other guys do and the farm help always help you. Some sale barns do some don’t. Lots a times your gathering culls on a milk route in the middle of the night by yourself. So you gotta find em, make sure they are yours load em and get em there.
Lots of boys put em on the truck and make it a race and talk about shrink. That wouldn’t know shrink from a dry tit. Just an opinion.
I’m not saying you’re not capable or can’t do it, I’m only saying it’s not something you pick up in a week. It’s also not something you have to know everything before you can solo either cuz that’s impossible none of us do. Its definitely not for everyone
Right now isn’t a good time it’s hard to buy a load. The loads that are there have a line wanting to haul em for next to nothing. They got payments and people looking for their equipment already. -
They all moved to Austin. Not sure where the steers went.
