Flatbed with flat pay per load

I thought percentage pay was better than CPM, I guess I was wrong.

 

We had trip sheets to fill out with our beginning and ending odometer, as well as the empty miles between loads. Usually would have 9 or 10 loads per pay period (two weeks) so an extra $450-500 or whatever on top of your miles.

We ran the same roads in Northwest so anyone going the long way was easily spotted out. Trying to pad miles wasn’t worth losing your job over.

And what I got paid is irrelevant now, I was employed there from 2004 to 2011 and then again in 2017 and 2018.

 

Well, then what matters is your gross at the end of the week. You basically answered your own original question. If you're positive you can get the amount of loads you need to hit your number then go for it. I wouldn't worry about all the other stuff as long as the carrier has good safety record with the FMCSA.

You should always try to negotiate higher even if you're happy with what you've been offered. However, with the market the way it is I wouldn't pull the high ball route though. They'll just pass on you and hire someone else.

Anyway, nobody can tell you what it's worth because we don't know what you're hauling. We don't know your experience. We don't know your market. Etc etc. If you think you're worth more then get what you want or walk. Maybe you'll find more somewhere else.

 

Vernon if you are hot for this company, you seem like you've thought about it and already decided. I say go for it. Just let us know and be truthful because we like to know too. I've been in flatbed that paid only cents per mile and you would get short loads so that way big mileage pay didn't mean squat. I also worked at a salary company and that meant you couldn't say no to any load or account, like tarping elevators. So they always get you somehow.
