The more companies, the more the competition, the cheaper prices are bid...and the lowest guy on the totem pole gets the least of what's left.
When there are less companies, there will be less competition. Look at banks as an example.
Then rates will go up, but employers will pay as little as possible to drivers and only increase it as they have to. So if a lot of drivers are suddenly bounced out and there truely is a shortage, pay will go up. Just like air traffic controlers. Reagan bounced them out and they were being paid 34,000 per year. (middle income at that time was about 30. Then the shortage drove wages up until they hit about 150 per year in 2000. Now new controllers are being hired at 50 and top out at 65 or so. Plenty of controllers available.
So maybe we'll see starting pay for one year experience go to 40 cents and 15 year drivers getting 75 cents. Time will tell.

It's your actual "points" total under the new CSA Safety Management System.
Some refer to it as Sis, SLs, or SIs. Your company may call it something else.
Everyone needs to get up to speed on it as far as scoring goes. EVERY violation carries TRIPLE points for the first 6 months, then they reduce by 33% at predetermined intervals.
An out of service violation carries an additional 2 point tag, which also triples for the first 6 months.
Here's a brief summary for you.
Log book violation -- Out of service
Equals 10 points PLUS 2 for the OOS. For a total of 12 times 3 for 6 months......You now have 36 points on your Sis score.
Blown Marker light -- 3 Points.
Which is tripled for the first 6 months. Meaning you have 9 points on your score.
90 points will cost me my job. And since the scores stay on you for 3 years, you can see why it's important to KNOW your actual score.
Mine is currently 6, but will drop to 3 shortly after they start enforcement.
There are a few key points that are still being tweaked....so stay tuned for even more BS. -
Does anyone know how many points it will be if your truck regerstration, and over weight, permit, don't match the truck. I didn't know, but when stop at a scale house a dot officer found a 7 was suppose to be a y he let me go but told me to get it fixed, I have my boss and he is yet to fix it. I ask him about it all the time but said he will have to take a chance for now. I go thru the scale everyday and know sooner or later I'm gonna get checked and it will be seen its not fixed. I am stuck because I need to work to make money so I have to choose to chance or sit. I am presently looking for other work.

I'm not sure what the actual point assesement you would take on this. There is some debate as to whether they would hit you with just the most severe, or stack the violations together. If they concluded it was a failure to perform a proper inspection --- 3 points which will be tripled for the first 6 months totaling 9 points.
Blatant disregard of a previous inspection. I dunno how they would view that, as that is not one of the categories at this time. Although I suspect if the same officer caught you a second time, he would place the vehicle out of service. Then who knows what would happen from there...point wise.
It really doesn't matter at this point. Because YOU will be hit FIRST if this is not corrected. Then your company will also take a hit.
This ruling will not put every bad company out of business immediately. But it WILL force drivers to refuse to move the equipment, or place his CDL and any future employment in jeopardy.
Here's a link to violations and the points assessed. Although incomplete, the list starts on Page 36 of the PDF file. http://www.landlinemag.com/todays_news/Daily/2009/Dec09/121409/SMSMethodology.pdf
The article is NOT complete, and makes reference to weighting of violations and scores. Weighting, is where the current debate is taking place. So it is subject to change.claredog1 Thanks this. -
I Still got 137 days till I turn 21 and wont be going to CDL School AGAIN until this July ( I'm doing the weekend schedule 10 weeks will finish just as I turn 21).
I sure hope I don't run into any more problems finding a job then a 21yr old would now.

Thanks in advance for your reply!
