It’s alright for a legal load. Just nothing to get excited about. 3.50 a mile is trash for an 8 axle rig. But it beats 3.50 a mile and having to buy permits. And it gets me home for the weekend

Ol WoreOut had words with a keyboard warrior a few days ago and I remember Wore saying something about “normal” people. What is NORMAL?

Have you ever noticed on the bigroad, at every major interchange, there is a traffic jam?The cause of the traffic jam? People in the wrong lane. Roads are clearly marked, if you can read road signs (which I believe all motorists are required to be able to do) you should be in the correct lane well before you get to the interchange. So, what’s the problem?

“It’s the GPS, Six.”

Correct, but that’s part of the problem. Let me illustrate.

BEFORE swift bought Central Refrigerated, I saw a Central Refrigerated truck at the port of Mobile with the truck’s roof carved back right above the visor. It’s raining. Driver is sitting in the seat, his long hair is wet, because it’s raining on the inside of the truck. We make eye contact and we both begin to laugh.

Driver what happened?
“My GPS got me into trouble.”
No sir, you can’t blame the GPS, whatever you hit was almost eyeball level. You ducked in your seat before the hit. What in the blue blazes did you hit?
“Man, I hate Mobile!”
Were there any signs saying NO TRUCKS or LOW CLEARANCE?
“No.”
Was there anything yellow and black with flashing lights going across the road?
“No”
I am sorry sir, but I do not believe you. What are you doing here?
“Waiting to load.”
(I laughed so hard that I was on my knees in a puddle of water.)
You didn’t call your company.
“Nooooooo….am I in trouble?”
The first cop that sees you is going to pull you over and ask you what you what did you hit. You’re in a lot of trouble.

This driver hit something that was right above his visor. He didn’t damage the reefer. He peeled back the part above the seats, not the sleeper. That’s eyeball level on a bigrig. How do you drive a rig into an overpass that’s so low that it’s eyeball level? When does self preservation/gut instinct/spider sense kick in? For a huge chunk of the population, it doesn’t. Normal would be to have gut instincts, but such a huge chunk of the population doesn’t. Apparently, NORMAL is now abnormal.

 

That's it. Grab some lumber in the mornin and back to Colorado.
