The training period, riding with a company trainer, is where new drivers learn 95% of the job. CDL school is just to pass the state test. It teaches you NOTHING about doing a job.
You likely wouldn't pick which skydiving school or medical school based on which one has the least training, I hope. If you are a newbie there is an 80 or 90% chance you will quit trucking permanently long before you work for one year. A lot of that is because newbies wait until they are desperate & broke to get into trucking & they have poor judgment & little training to avoid breaking trucks & trailers and get fired. Avoiding adequate training is volunteering to be one of those quickly failing in trucking. Newbies don't know what they don't know but are in a hurry.Lonwolv54 Thanks this. -

I'm sorry, but....
say what you want....think what(ever) you want.
One week (or less) out on a trainer's truck is simply NOT ENOUGH....

Two weeks with a trainer is all that's needed for a driver with an average IQ.
Opus Thanks this. -
It (also) depends on the quality/instruction level from the trainer.
Two weeks with my trainer would (still) not have been enough.

As long as we all agree 50k miles minimum like at prime is unreasonable. If you can't figure it out by then, well; that CDL should be burned.
Chinatown Thanks this.
