Hello,
I understand entertainment industry goes on tours. How does that work with multiple venues whereby equipment moves from concert location to concert location? Is it exempt from cabotage rules as i read no point to point.
Thanks

If they are moving the same items from venue to venue I don't think that is cabotage, but I am guessing. I'm American I only recently learned there are other countries beside America.
silverspur, Canadianhauler21, firemedic2816 and 1 other person Thank this. -
… I would like to believe that they use drivers from the appropriate countries.
The performers need a work permit to work in the other country, it is likely that they may be able to get papers for everyone on their crew. -
You’re welcome

Cabotage rules for trucking, specifically in the context of concert tours, restrict foreign-based trucks from performing domestic transportation within a country after completing an international delivery. For example, a British truck delivering equipment for a concert in the U.S. can only transport goods within the U.S. if it's part of the international shipment's journey or if the domestic portion is incidental to the international trip. Violations can lead to fines, loss of operating authority, and reputational damage.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
What is Cabotage?
Cabotage refers to the transportation of goods or passengers within a country by a company or individual based in another country. In the context of trucking, it means a foreign-based truck cannot pick up cargo within a country and deliver it within that same country.
Cabotage in Concert Touring:
- International to Domestic:
If a truck brings concert equipment into the U.S. from another country (e.g., Canada, Mexico, or Europe), it can deliver that equipment within the U.S. However, it cannot then pick up a separate shipment within the U.S. and deliver it to another location in the U.S. - "Top-Ups":
Similarly, a foreign truck cannot "top up" an international shipment with additional goods picked up within the U.S. for domestic delivery. - Incidental Domestic Segments:
A foreign truck can transport goods within the U.S. as part of an international trip, but the domestic portion must be incidental to the international journey and the driver must be employed by the same company as the international delivery. - Post-Brexit Example:
Post-Brexit, British trucks can only make three stops in the EU before returning to the UK. This has impacted concert tours requiring multiple stops within the EU, as the restrictions make it difficult to complete a tour.

Does this job go places other than US and Canada? I wouldn't drive in Mexico for all the fentanyl in Mexico.
