Does anyone have any information about the PITT- OHIO EXPRESS Sprinter van program? Becoming "accustomed and familiar with these sights and sounds of trucking, the transition to the big rigs could prove to be much easier" sounds appealing to me.

We have one Sprinter at our terminal. The woman who drives it works part-time so she has no benefits but earns over $17/hr. I don't know what a typical run is at other terminals, but she delivers to places that are too small for even a straight truck or will make smaller deliveries that aren't worth sending a larger truck to. Pitt-Ohio has recently entered the "Ground" (parcel) business so there might be more work for the Sprinters. Personally, if you don't have a class A or B license, I would look into the Dockworker to class B program if there is a need at your local terminal. Many of the class A drivers at our terminal started on the dock or in a straight truck.
Here's the current openings. It may be worth calling the terminal for for specific details, but you can only apply online and can only apply for a posted position.
Best of luck.

For some reason, our Sprinters have not been running for over a year, the dispatcher told my wife and the other girl whom used to run 2 of ours that they were not effecient enough?? Personally I believe that our routers, whom have never driven a truck just don't want to take the time to route all the small freight because it is time consuming, so, both of the ladies are working the dock. Both of our's were and still are full time though. My wife is currently awaiting entry into the class B training program to get off the dock. We too have heard of the small package business, 6-8 months ago, but have yet to see evidence of it.
Ragman, what terminal are you out of? I'm out of Toledo.Vic1031 Thanks this. -
I'm a city driver in Washington, PA.
Our router and city dispatcher are both former city drivers, but our Sprinter driver usually routes and loads herself with the help of a dockworker. -
I know that pitt ohio was hiring out of the Hazleton, PA terminal. I don't know if they are still hiring though
