Hello all,
A little back story TLDR.
I use to be a driver in 2012-2013, I drove Team LTL from Michigan to California every week.
I would have kept driving, but my Father was diagnosed with Alzheimers and crashed our families only car and lost his license.
My Mother was already handicapped so I stopped working and came off the road to take care of both of them full time. They have both since passed my Mother being the latest as of June this year. SInce I had a 12 year gap, I decided to go back to CDL School again and start over. I have a perfect driving record and no criminal history.
I don't drink or do drugs ever. Every recruiter I call wants to to somehow prove I took care of my Parents for so many years. I have no way of proving that because it wasn't official. My parents made to much Money for me to get assisstance from the state. I figure with my previous short experince, perfect driving record and no criminal history I would have no problems find a job with a mega carrier. Any advice would be helpful thank you,

Some companies will accept a notarized statement that you were a caregiver.
Several drivers on this forum went through this same issue.tscottme and DetroitBaseball Thank this. -
Try Western Express. The pay isn't that great, but if you can stick with it for 6 mos. you should be ok for other companies.

I was a full-time caregiver -- for 5 1/2 years.
Then got into the CDL world.
This was several years back -- before covid...& the job market for drivers was much better than it is now.
Even with a clean driving record, & no criminal history -- the only carrier that would hire me was Schneider.
Spent almost 2 years there...then moved on.
Your mega fleets like that....have such incredible freight volumes....that they need all the help they can get (or so it seems).
I constantly see job ads for drivers....from Swift, & Schneider.
They are also self-insured....so that works in your favor, as well.
Thus -- try Swift...&/or Schneider.

Just keep applying to any place you're interested in. Every carrier has different methods they accept for employment gaps in the last ten years. Some are reasonable while others aren't.
