The regs require carriers to provide certain PPE.

 

When did companies start carrying about regulations? At best I've had earplugs provided and a used communal hardhat. Didn't even have to pay for the lice or brown goo on the headband.

It's funny, I almost went the flatbed route, until I got hired on with Prime and they slipped in the fact that I would have to buy 4-5k worth of flatbed securement crap that would be taken out of my check over the year. As a company driver. I said #### that and went reefer there. Even still, had to buy chains and also cables for the truck, load bars, locks, trucker atlas, fuses, light bulbs, washer fluid, etc. Still ended up being like 700 bucks to start as a company reefer driver. If it wasn't major repairs, tires, DEF, or diesel, the driver bought it. I had to pay out of pocket for a pigtail, brake hose, and mudflap on a trailer on my own.

 

Don't work for crappy companies, the good ones follow the regulations.

It's normal for carriers to charge drivers for issued equipment, but PPE is a different story. If they're not providing you with required PPE then you can file an OSHA complaint. Or find a better outfit to work for.

 

That doesn't make sense to me. Why is PPE required to be offered but we have to buy crap for our job running company equipment? The dispatchers and desk jockeys aren't buying ink for the printers in the office. They don't buy a new hard drive when the computer they use has one die.

I'm still mad about having to buy tire chains, then also buy those worthless tire cables, then be told; "Oh yeah, if you chain up, you're fired. Just park the rig and sit. Oh and when you quit, leave the brand new, unused chains on the truck too!"

Go #### yourself, I'll keep my shiny unused chains and worthless cables as a lawn ornament before I give them back after how much they cost.

 

Because OSHA regulations require them to provide PPE, but there are no regulations in force that require them to provide things like tire chains or ink cartridges.

You're comparing apples to oranges.
