5 is good price. BC3 is easy peezy to overhaul. I assume it's a 9 speed by the looks of the range selector. Is it aluminum or steel cab. Some had aluminum cabs and steel doors. The only parts that can be hard to source will be cab and interior.

He said it started knocking and lost power. I figured a rod came loose from piston or dropped valve. I’d say bearings need done also

you’ll have 100k in it by the end of next year, if you make it

Sincerely, someone who runs a 1997 every day….

big cam is maybe, $2500, if it’s atleast a 402 rears you are probably looking at $500 per for core, 146 and smaller trans don’t even have a core on them so that’s scrap value, what’s the date code on the drives? Because anything beyond 3-4 years are junk rubber anyway

are those ball and sockets? Or hub piloted

$5k is about $3500 more than that Star is worth IMO.

Mark my words on this, you will NOT turn that into a safe and reliably running truck for less than $40k IMO. And that's doing most of the work yourself.

I ran my 96 for W star for 3 years trouble free but it had a s60 in it. Frame was bad or I would have rebuilt it. Probably would not get that lucky again, I paid 6k for it . I took my profile picture while it was dying.

IMG_0071.jpeg I paid $4,000 for this one, with a blown 3406 B. (1989) Basically had 30 in it until it hit the road, it’s been dependable. I just bought a different truck, this one will be going out for sale in the next several months. I would offer 2,500 on the one you have pictured, it’s not worth more than that IMO

I might put it in the classifieds and see what happens. Planning to keep it until I have run the new one a bit, get my faith in it worked up to a good level!
