That's just plain pathetic IMO.

otherhalftw, Skunk_Truck_2590, FriedTater and 3 others Thank this. -
Arrested? She should be given a medal!!!
She can come to my house and slap my kids around all day!Baack, FriedTater, gearjammer-2000 and 4 others Thank this. -
If one of my kids or grandkids did that to me, OR one of their grandmothers, being slapped would be the least of their worries!

This whole thing sucks, starting with whatever law and officials that sent granny to jail.It was used incorrectly.
Im sure she wont see any bedknobs and broomsticks or cellmates named big bertha, and they are treating her with kid gloves in the nicest cell avail, probably two pillows instead of one.I would bet granny is even likein the attention she is getting from all of this,it was a day out of the house and 15 mins of fame.
I think one day, when this 18 year old is 73 herself, she will look back on this event as one of the most regretful days of her life. -
Hey Tops, I listened to an interview with this lady on our local radio station this morning.
She was devastated. Said she never cried so much in her entire life. She described her ordeal.
She slapped her granddaughter as indicated in the article. The teen grabbed her wrists, nearly breaking one, and then slugged her in the jaw and knocked her down. That brought grandpa out of his chair and he restrained the granddaughter, possibly keeping her from tagging grandma again. Teen then ran out in the driveway and called 9-11.
Cop #1 shows up and takes statements from everyone. Cop #2 shows up and they then arrest Granny, cuff her, and put her in the cop car. At this point, the granddaughter is crying in the driveway, "please don't take my grandma to jail! It was all my fault!"
Too late. Granddaughter should have thought about that before she acted to a gutless piece of schit.
Cop took Grandma to a local strip mall and told her "we are waiting for transport" Grandma then sat in the back of the cop car, hands still cuffed behind her back, for over an hour, while the officer ignored her and filled out his paperwork.
The wagon came to pick her up and she was paraded out in the middle of the parking lot in front of everyone, while they made the transfer to transport.
Off to jail she went - straight to jail. She spent 24 hours there with about 80 other inmates in and out. She said pretty much all of them were very supportive of her. Lot of hardened criminals coming up to her and asking her what she had done to land herself in there, telling her she'd be OK but that she needed to stop crying because that was only making things worse.
She said that of the officers that were there and that processed her, only one of them was decent to her and he was very kind. He informed her that because of what happened, an arrest had to be made but the officer did have some leeway in how he handled it and he obviously handled it incorrectly. But she was the one that had to be charged because she initiated the physical confrontation by slapping her granddaughter.
She got out the next day, stood in front of a judge and was given a court date. Had a radio station call her that day and talk to her, then put her in touch with their own lawyers who took her case pro bono. She was there all day and in the end, they had the entire thing dismissed.
So, granny did not have it easy...it was as traumatic of an incident as could be on her and her voice was breaking through most of the interview. And she said it was the most mortifying experience that she's ever had. But she said she was surprised at how many people came out in support of her and she truly appreciated that from complete strangers, even the other inmates. She said she was terrified when she was put in the cell, but that the other inmates turned out to be pretty protective of her.
No idea what the deal with the granddaughter is going to be because they didn't touch on that in the interview. But what definitely needs to happen - and this is my opinion of the matter - is that the officer(s) that dealt with the crisis are heartless azzhats and need to be dealt with on a professional level. I'd toss the punk out on the street myself for the embarassment caused to the police department and the mistreatment of a 73 year old grandma.kajidono, cherokee96red, truckerdave1970 and 1 other person Thank this. -
18 years old. She's old enough to find her own place.

They did a followup interview on that local station today. And while I don't care for that on air personality, I do applaud what he did for that lady. And what's really pathetic is the other local media chose to ignore that part of the story. The media here, at least the majority, has gotten so one sided and biased that it is ridiculous.
