Speaking of brakes, instead of reloading today I get to have my trailer ABS looked at . The light comes on whenever I hit the brakes, and I unplugged it a few days ago to get this far. We'll just see what this ends up being!
I've also found out why you want to change your valve stems out everytime you mount/dismount a tire. So far in the last week, I've had 3 tires on the same axle air down on me with no obvious damage to the tires. The valves stick when I check the pressure, but if I don't check 'em I'd be worse off. So I listen for it after, and check the valves for leaks (spit on the valve trick). When I was loading 2 days ago, the customer loading me spotted #3 and pointed it out - and I thanked him for that. I just checked them that morning and it aired down in 200 miles. Those valves are all getting changed out today - I can't afford to be losing tires!

If your abs light comes on when you apply your brakes, doesn't that mean the abs is working.

Saddle Tramp Thanks this.

Still running hard this week. Some truckers started hauling flat storage wheat. Dairyman, the wheat in the flat was so so, they took it anyway.
Diesel keeps rising around here...the rates sure aren't.dairyman Thanks this. -
Refinery just blew up in Texas, as if the oil spill wasn't bad enough. Fuel is going to skyrocket.
wheathauler Thanks this. -
No, we sure didn't need another blow to the oil industry, I wonder if anyone was hurt in this one? The spill in the Gulf is going to be disaster, but it seems like the news media has pretty much forgot that 11 people lost their lives.
WH, you better keep running hard before fuel really goes up! It jumped to $3.29 here in town today. -
Dang $3.29 I thought $3.14 was high!! I put in eighty gallons today to fill up...on the theory it will probably go up. However the fuel won't last long putting on a lot of miles.
Rates usually go up here when harvest hits, last year didn't go up much...with these fuel prices they're going to have to raise them. I hope so anyway. -
Well, there's the up side. They will have to raise them. Not even the bottom feeders will be able to afford fuel. Hey, maybe they'll give up and go home.
wheathauler, HwyPilot, highside and 1 other person Thank this. -
Diesel went from 2.89 to 3.09 in 3 days,i don't know about every body elses rates, but MINE went up last week,i ain't going to haul the stuff for free. The 3 main feedmills i haul for wanted to balk on me raising my rates a tad last week,so i hauled me an air-conditioner. One of the mills called today and wanted a load of soyhulls ASAP,so we shall see, they didn't balk on my rates today when they needed it bad enough. I told them that i really wanted their business, but i was not apologizing for increasing my rates along with the fuel increase. Sorry for the rant fellers, but i'm gett'in a little tired of thinking i need to apologize for just trying to make a decent living,ya know. I'll probably loose one mill, but they are always low-balling me anyway, like i said,we shall see.
One things for sure,my house ain't flooded and i don't have my furniture all out in the yard trying to keep it dry like so many folks around here and in Tenn.,now those poor folks do have something to complain about, i hauled out of Boston,Ky. monday and seeing those folks trying to salvage some portion of their belongings in their homes makes my problem with the rates seem pretty dang insignificant, doesn't it. Ya'll have a safe weekSaddle Tramp, wheathauler and HwyPilot Thank this. -
ok guys i have a question for you all and hope you can help. if any of you have or have had a tag axle------- what kind of mileage do you get out of tires on the tag?
