Speed limiter myths.....

I could see the speed of trucks being a solution but I also see this being a problem for some. What if you needed to speed up to avoid a dangerous situation? I am not sure how many times that may occur for a truck driver and how feasible that is, but I know me in my 4 wheeler sometimes speed can save my life?

What is everyone else's opinion?

 

The vast majority of govd trucks dont do it right!! If a truck going 1 mph faster than me pulls to the left to pass, and there develops a line behind him, ALL I've got to do is drop my speed 3 mph for 10 secs, and he will be around me!! But that requires some 'actual driving' to be done on MY part!!

 

I wouldn't have a problem with it if the 4 wheelers were limited too!! like that would ever happen. I feel the the most dangerouse thing out there is truck speed limits 10mph lower than 4 wheelers. ANy time you have vehicles going different speeds like that it's a recipie for disaster

 

Insurance companies have a lot to do with speed governers. Most of 'em won't qoute truck companies standard cost premiums without added governers. Go figure.

 

I don't know of many drivers' ed classes that would tell you to speed up to avoid an emergency situation. Maybe you could be more specific.

Good ABS brakes are the best solution to many emergency situations.

 

GOOD POINT !
But, IT means you have to actually drive ! Not many are willing to "knock off " their cruise control!

 

I have been in several situations that if I either
1) Didn't stay way behind them; I could be in an accident
2) If I passed them quickly I could get around them and know I am safe from any harm!

Sometimes it isn't drivers ed, but it is simple facts, do I want to stay behind this person forever or do I want to be stressed free while driving down the road and choose to hurry up and pass very quickly!

One case a 4 wheeler was swerving from one lane to another: I stayed behind this guy of course! He was going from one side of the road to another on an interstate (THAT WAS SCARRY, I preyed he made it home that morning)
Another case a truck driver was going over the yellow lines and I stayed behind him for a while and then I got tired of going 50 on the interstate and chose to speed very quickly to get around him so I could get on with my trip. Again I preyed the driver made it safely!
How about a driver is beside you going the speed limit and he is about to side swipe you? I don't want to be hit so I speed up to get away from him/her.

I know there is other situations that you may need speed to get yourself out of a situation, but to each is own in how they handle the situations.
If they set you at 60 and the speed limit was 70 in the state you are in that could be dangerous .
