    If they want to use the machine on return, they should have one at the pickup point and the renter gets a printout of dings with the rental agreement.

    Back in the day, when I rented a car, I always used a credit card that had automatic insurance for stuff like this. I remember what I think was my last rental. About 3 years before I lost my mother. I rented a car to drive her to Texas for a family reunion. On the way, a passing car somehow picked up a rock and nicked the front windshield. While there, I made contact with the credit card company. Later on, I returned the car. Pointed out the nick. I never heard anything again. To this day, I don't know if National filed a claim or not. I just know I was never charged.

    That won't help. The sun's position seems to affect them. Reflections are called damage by the machine. I read about this a couple of weeks ago.
