@JohnBoy i have a coworker who, probably close to 2 years ago now was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and has since been receiving intense treatment from Mayo in jax, he’s 72 and still drives when he feels like it, doctors told him if he feels up to it go for it, I say this to say Mayo is a miracle clinic, I thought for sure I would’ve had to say goodbye to my friend many months ago, not only is that not the case, he’s actually returning to his old self again. Best of luck on your journey.

Thoughts and prayers for your coworker. Our choice of hospitals and Dr’s didn’t come lightly. There are 4 top rated hospitals in the US that we could have gone to. The Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, USC San Diego, Vanderbilt in Nashville and University of Miami Medical Center. All were the best in treating Acoustic Neuroma. The deciding factor for us was that all these top hospitals used the blueprint written by The Mayo Clinic. Add to that my 2 neurosurgeons came highly recommended in their field, and it was a no brainer. Every part of my brain tumor from initial diagnosis, to where I’m at right now, is because of Mayo and my team of health care providers. If I decide to finally retire, it’s not because of what I went through, but what I have ahead of me and things I still have to accomplish. My job I have right now is the best job I’ve had in 45 years of driving. But I’m working only because I don’t want to retire. Financially I could have retired 6 years ago. But going through these last 8 months has allowed me to rethink my life at this time. Right now my release date from my Dr’s is October 18th. I’ll have my decision made long before then.austinmike, 4mer trucker, Rugerfan and 10 others Thank this.

JB,
I have always enjoyed reading your posts as you are so positive and to the point in your responses. Your positive attitude in the approach of your recent "glitch" is as it should be. Research, plan, attack, recovery and future approach to life.
It is true that the previous 6 decades or thereabouts of a person's life is spent working and hopefully at a good job but the remaining time left in one's lifetime is usually limited. If you are fortunate to have a great spouse then it is a blessing to be able to spend quality time with them and just do want you want, when you want If it is to be.
Sorry for the long post but you are an inspiration to us all and deserving of all the good things that are to come your way. I wish you a continued successful recovery and my thoughts and prayers to you and Mrs. JB.4mer trucker, DonRobbie, Friend and 3 others Thank this. -
Thank you @navypoppop. My recovery is going as planned. But truth be told, these last 8 months has had me looking at my life I’ve had on this rock, and my future, however long that might be. I’ll be 70 in February. I’ve seen family and friends leave this earth much earlier than they should have. I think back to when my pops passed 25 years ago at 69 years old. These things have played a big part in my life since January when this all started. I use to say I was lucky being where I am in my life. It’s not luck, it’s planning. My wife and I worked very hard in both our careers to be able to say, we’re done. Let’s enjoy the fruits of our hard work. Our kids are grown, married and have kids of their own. My wife and I have family and friends in our life that we truly love. I’ve been off the truck since July 14th. I thought I would miss it, I do, but I’ve really got acclimated nicely to being home.
Out of respect to my contractor, and the best job I’ve had in trucking, if I do decide to hang up the keys, I will talk with him and give him a little of my expertise until he gets a replacement. If that happens, then I’ll work until the end of the year. As always, these thoughts are open to change, the biggest difference is that I've been discussing this with my wife since that day 8 months ago when I got the phone call that I had a brain tumor. That cold unassuming phone call back in January changed my life. They hung up, and I was sitting on the next off ramp in shock. I’ll never want to experience that ever again. One final thing, though I have good days and bad days as my recovery goes on, I still have a boatload of living to do.4mer trucker, High Stepper, 1catfish and 10 others Thank this. -

Hey everyone. Just thought I’d drop in and let you all know how I’m doing. I am just about at the 2 month mark since my surgery. I want to say everything is good, but, not quite yet. When this all started, I was told 3 months. My biggest issue is the balance problem. I’m still experiencing issues with my balance and equilibrium. It’s better, but not where it should be. So, my 3x’s per week at physical therapy will continue. I go to the Mayo next week for 2 days of MRI and Dr’s post surgery check up. I did find out too that because of the amount of time and the amount of anesthesia I was under, 13 hours, it could take up to 6 months to clear out of my system. That too comes with a few issues. But all in all, I’m doing fine. I’m actually able to do some things around the house, drive my wife around doing real estate work, and do my exercises. The balance and equilibrium issue is what’s got me concerned. That’s it for now, hope you all are doing well.
