Ummm yea , I hardly think you have to worry about anyone takin yer radio away . . .
If they took yours , they would have to take about 40 million other radios away too . . .
Ya got the cops and DOT in and out of yer truck all the time .
    Nuthin ever happends.
Maybe every once in a million years ya get some guy with a stick up his *** , lookin to make captain overnight.
But the feds are just a lil too buzy right now to be dealing with yout loud ardio , that's no more louder than the next guys loud radio . . .

You better believe it, sir. Just ask our ham guys. First, the FCC will send a letter to the owner of the truck. After that, the fines come out.

Yes, with a good antenna that's installed properly. And, you're likely to hear the 50 watt guy on EVERY CB channel, which is annoying as hell.

So the stupider people of the world will feel better about themselves

one of my budies just bought a magnum ,he had a freedom ranger in his truck before,I talk to him everyday and hear him further than the freedom ranger he had before. We have compared the two radios, the magnum is much quieter and hears alot farthur than the ranger,it also talks furthur, same antenna also on both times of testing. like corey says the blue lights are pretty, but, you have to dim them as they light up the whole cab. there is also a magnum with lighted dials but, really, too much on your eyes.

Guy I know was DOT'd in Kansas last summer, and they ran a drug dog thru his truck as a random check. While there the officer pointed out his radio was illegal, and needed to get rid of it. He left it as a verbal. Depends where you go. They randomly crack down on slack adjustments, lights, tires etc. More noise some of you guys make, the more attention you bring to us all. People really wouldnt say much if people stayed on the 40, turned off the gawd dang noise toys and echo, and cleaned up the language. Its a glorified walkie talkie, and not a redneck telephone, lol. Fact is though too many shops are making boxes into 40 channel noise bleeders, with stupid beeps and sounds, and echo cranked way too high, but it sounds good on their talkback!, and way too much power to talk across the street. Fact is, doesnt matter if your pushing 50w or 400w, it doesnt get thru any better in the air when its congested. Everyone is running echo cranked up, and all you get is minute long squeal sessions. Everyone is pushing too much power, and therefore carries further then designed, over modulating that is, and it makes a total mess. Ive come to the conclussion my big radio doesnt really help much, but adds to the chaos instead. Thats why Im going to be switching to a different setup, soon as I figure out which radio for sure Im going with. Your connex is a nice radio Im sure rubberman, thats what you run, as I recall, however, throwing all them watts out in a very small channel range only makes it all worse. Theres reasons the FCC limited CB's the way they did. If you want to talk DX, go ham, and clean up. If you wanna talk to the local gentry and bs, great, more power to you on 11m, however, I dont need to hear about it 2 counties away, lol. If you drove truck, you would understand what Im saying. Sorry for the rant, needed to get that off my chest!

I know this is old and know 5 watts will not be doing the same as 50 watts. 10 miles at 5 watt is over, 1200 watts 150 miles and thats on them other fregs where you don't here anybody else. Oh Magnum just came out with the new S3 and S 6 350 watts, Truckers in mind. Unless your in a state that says you can't have this radio and I can't find one. When you turn it into a export radio this is what makes it a no no, but the 11 meter can be set up on these radios as when you turn it off and on it only goes to 10 meters, to get the 11 back you have to ,well just type mods on goggle and you will learn a lot, this is a good place to check out for the smart ones, cbtricks.com. I think it's dead but there is a lot of info there, I say this as email gets returned. I leave now as saying one last thing, never take one person advive untill it's the same as all. Read, search, it's the Web you can find it.

IF you STAY on channel 19 and KNOW you are ON the CB band ONLY you will be fine. There are NO extra channels available for use without license in the US. Period. Just because the tempting additional channels are "quiet" does not mean they are available for you to use. Some people think that because there is no talking there, they must be "empty". That is NOT true. They are ASSIGNED to other users, many of whom have licenses from, FCC and DOD.

Now. A bunch of these frequencies (28.000 thru 29.700 MHZ) are assigned to the Amateur Service. Amateurs obtain licenses to operate that segment (it's called "10 Meters"). Some parts of it are reserved for digital modes such as Morse Code, Pactor (packets of digital info), Slow scan TV, and various phone modes. The lower end of 10 meters is reserved for digital modes. That's why it may seem like no one is using those frequencies. But you may be hearing some beeps and burps that don't mean anything to YOU, but they are "talking" to each other using these modes and via computer screens! So when CBers go onto those frequencies, they INTERFERE with these operations and it makes the Amateurs MAD! And sometimes they will go out and HUNT for the offending stations---even cruise the interstates to "trap" truckers who are talking on 10 Meters. Trust me, it HAS been done. And the hams are quite good at it as they have received more training that the usual CB operator. That's NOT a put-down; its just a fact. So, long story short, stay OFF those "uppers" and "lowers". They belong to somebody via licensure. You could get into trouble!!!:biggrin_25523:

Stay on the normal channels, no probs. There are NO extra channels for anybody---truckers or otherwise. Besides, there's 40 channels already. There's no NEED to go into someone ELSE's house!:biggrin_25513:

Are you kidding ME!!! The DOT are not FCC officers can't and will not write tickets for a import radio. I've been out here 18 years and never seen it. If it's not in your green DOT hand book there's nothing they can DO!!! I run over 5,000 watts outta my OWN truck and have NEVER had a problem!!! I talk on 11, 6, 26, and 32 all the time shooting skip. There's nothing wrong with your magnum at all. Have fun and enjoy your radio!!! :biggrin_25523:
