Are you interested in Flatbed? If so, Bison USA flatbed division could be ideal for you. They have regular routes between Watertown, SD and Forest, VA(very near Lynchburg). You could basically take a preloaded trailer from Watertown and something from in or near Lynchburg back to near SD and take a couple days sometime between every round trip. I did this for awhile a few years ago. Not a bad gig really.

If you don't start using your CDL soon after you get it companies may require you pay for a refresher course to get hired. It's best to find the job first before going to CDL school but everyone like to walk the tightrope without a net, so here we are.
THERE IS NO TRUCK DRIVER SHORTAGE. The CDL schools have an interest in anyone and everyone going to CDL school even if jobs are hard to find. Trucking companies prefer there be 1,000 applicants for every driving job so they can pick someone with no negatives and no leverage on working conditions.firemedic2816 Thanks this. -
Oh yes. You'll definitely have to pay some dues for a year. It is hard for new drivers to get into the industry without taking a couple lumps. I had to start with Western Express in 2010, and the industry was struggling then too. I made it work though. I saw bad reviews but I paid them no mind. I kept my down and did what was asked of me. You're experience is all about what you're willing to put into it. If you feel the need to look at reviews, try to look at more detailed, but objective ones. Not everyone will like these companies, but your focus is moreso about how they operate. The emotionally charged reviews won't help you at all. Wherever you end up, 1 year will be your magic number. If you can make it through, the industry will open up more for you.
Also, call Magnum and see if they still train. -

To be honest, I am being very picky! I needed to slow things down from a very stressful deadline driven business with numerous issues coming at me from all angles, to focusing on one thing at a time. I am late in my work years and want the company I work for to be the one I retire with in about 8 years. Would love to begin with OTR and see the country, heading westward from VA in a perfect world.
One thing I learned in business was that “no” means try harder! I changed things up today pretty heavily. I was able to find the right people that can make this happen for me with my top two company choices! I was fortunate to find people that were willing to help get me to them through some persistence on my part and willingness to help on theirs. I think I am back in the game brother! -
They did have companies that came in, and I have not ruled them out. I am just looking for the perfect fit for me, and I want it to be a long term, mutually beneficial relationship.
