I hid out just south of you not too far early last week, doing some scouting for elk and mulies.
Holy hell the heat. For an Arkansas boy to say it was hot, it was pretty dahmed hot.
The wife dropped me off around 1 two Saturdays ago, figuring she'd pick me back up on Tuesday. I had three days worth of gear.
I made it 6 miles in. The wind picked up and changed direction, smoke rolled in, and sumbeech it was like being in an air fryer.
I texted the wife on the satellite messenger and told her to pick me up the next mornin. She was two hours away already, but turned around to pick me back up that night, so I headed the 6 miles back.
She pulled in to Corn Creek at 7:50. I think I was as dehydrated as I've ever been. Near 8 o'clock and her car said 97*.
I scouted closer the next few days, then we said eff it and headed over to Yachats to finish our time off. Beautiful weather on the coast and great seafood.
The only good thing I found were bunches of these dudes, and some great scenery.

I was headed for water up high, but didn't get that far in the first day. I found a few areas with water, but they were in a burn. None had any elk sign, but I did see some deer tracks. I've heard elk in that area have been hit hard by the wolves. Maybe worse than I expected.
The next two days I got over 10k.
I didn't cut an elk track in three days. Saw mule deer, a bear, and lots of chukar.singlescrewshaker, CAXPT, broke down plumber and 7 others Thank this. -
