    Hello all,

I really need some help as I have some rotten thieves that keep stealing from me. I have a remote piece of land with a trailer and truck box on it. I have been broken into at least 12 times in the last year. I have had my generator stolen amongst other things. I thought I had made the necessary adjustments replacing glass windows with lexan and putting a big lock on the truck box. But this week it looks like someone took a gas powered grinder to the door of the truck box and cut a slit large enough to see through after they tried cutting the length of the door. Fortunately I haven't had the money to replace the generator but I do need one as no power equals no running water, lights, power to use tools etc... I have looked on the internet and can't find anything, does anyone have any suggestions on how to secure the truck box other than welding bars to encase the entire thing. I'm at a lose and really need some help! I've thought of using deer infared cameras but ones good enough to get a picture of the liscence plate or someone's face are way too expensive. Further I know other people that have caught thieves on tape and the police said they couldn't do anything without catching the criminal with the evidence. I figured members on this forum would know or have good ideas on how to protect the truck box.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,

    Kyle

After owning a retail business that was broken into several times, I decided to really make it hard to get into. I found out a crook will get in if they really want to, no matter what you do. I also found out the harder you make it to get in, the more they will tear up doing so.

A mean dog and big gun are the best deterrents. A dead man commits no crimes.

Get a truck battery and turn the truck box into one big electric fence.. The first time they piss themselves will most likely be the last..

I was on job-site where thieves hot-wired a backhoe to break into a tool container......The hoe was parked with it's loader bucket on top of the container and the nose tight against the container door......

    Thieves will break into anything....

    A lock serves two purposes....
One is to CYA the person who locks their possessions...
The other is to keep "Honest people honest"....

You might not stop them but you can sure get some revenge. I can almost guarantee you they are crack heads that live nearby that hear you come and go.

You can start out with 1 1/2" roofing tacks in the driveway hidden if you can. Next trip they'll be buying 4 tires.

You might consider putting your stuff in a gated storage unit in town. Maybe a 6X8 trailer you could easily move back and forth when you come in. I have a 10 x 20 unit I pay $50 monthly for. Well worth it.

You might gate the entrance if possible. They might be leary where they can possibly be seen cutting a lock on the road.

Radio Shack sells fake security camara's you could possibly fool them or maybe put one in a tree and booby trap the tree some how when they try to climb it.

Another idea is bear traps, maybe not that big, but big enough you might find someone limping around town :)

If all else fails leave a $50 crack rock in front of the truck box. Heck they might start watching things for ya! :biggrin_25523:

Make your truck box air tight. I mean absolutely air tight. Weld a bung in a discreet location where it is not likely to be noticed, and thread in a valve. Pump that sucker full of acetylene gas.

Next time they use a grinder to cut through it, they'll be in for quite a surprise...as well as everyone within earshot of the KABOOM!!!!

    I friggin' HATE thieves.:biggrin_25516:

...then again, there may not be much left of the the truck box...or whatever the truck box was mounted on either....but at least the thief would be dealt with.:biggrin_25525:

Camera's! They aren't all that expensive. I'll be installing some in the next few month's as my finace`s ex is a psycho path. Get them at Radio Shack. Just trying to figure out how to hook them up to a computer to record activity and save it for a month and auto delete unless saved with activity recorded needed for police and court purposes. Truck battery sting's but isn't enough.

On the other hand isolated entry point's with a 110v hook up would sure suck.

Also if the area has leaf's/leaves (spelling?) all around, use roofing shingles doubled up with nail's drove through all over them and cover with leaves just a bit further than reach from the door. They will have a hard time explaining what happened at the ER when they can't walk and are in serious pain because of a foot or both feet full of holes. I do this on my property on both end's at the property line where the Right-of-Way for the main thru way power line's are because of ATV's tearing up my yard mud riding. Told them once to ride else where but continued so I used the nail-n-shingle trick and popped tire's on two different ATV's. People called the police but nothing they could do because we have sign's posted "No Tresspassing". Their loss.

Also look around youtube and do searchs on anti theft and booby traps etc.

The only good thief is a dead thief. They are the lowest of the low in my book...right down there with child molesters and rapists. I wouldn't lose a lick of sleep over destroying anything I own if I knew a thief lost his life in the process.
