With all that down time and expense, couldn't you buy a Cummins Recon engine?
Does Cummins still make them for the big cam series?

It's a long story. I'm not a trucker, the truck is a boom truck I used for my construction business, I shut that down and was moving back to Kentucky. The engine blew up 3 hours into the trip going up Snoqualmie Pass. I had other things going on with the move too. It's not like I was working on the engine for 6 months straight. Had a house to remodel and sell too. From the time the block came back from the machine shop till I took the completed engine back to the truck was less than a month
There weren't many options for rebuild. At the time Cummins had nothing. Younker Brothers had an older big cam but I would have had to change stuff out to make it work. Capitol Reman said they could build me a cpl1280, but after sending them a check they said they couldn't. Finally just said F-it, I'll do it myself. How hard can it be?Dino soar, BoxCarKidd, Rideandrepair and 4 others Thank this. -
