I was offered a job for $550 a week, no more than 1800 miles, no bennies, and I won't be gone more than three nights, and off every weekend. I have been out of the game for a bit, my question is, is that good by todays standards? I have a clean MVR and 4 years exp that is verifiable.

thats 31 cpm not to good but depends on what you need? 31 cpm I could deal with if i had to but not with only 1800 miles..and is that after taxes or before?

That is 550 gross. They will pay for showers and food, as long as it is not three $10 truck stop meals a day.

Ask yourself: What are your current needs? what do I need to make in order to be successful? is there any chance for a pay increase? In the end it is your decision and good luck in whatever you choose.

thanks, I hear people talking about how they make twice that, but i am sure they are not home on the weekends. I ran otr, weeks at a time, and I don't miss it, being home on the weekends is important to me.

If that's without tax's being taken out, being away from home and no bennie's. #### that. I'd find something else. The owner sound's like a cheap skate.

You say you have 4 years verifiable experience but have been out of it a bit. If that bit was longer than 2 years ago your experience is worthless to a prospective employer. You say 1800 miles but how many hours per day? Are you going to put in 10 hours a day loading and unloading? I think the lack of benefits would be deal breaker for me. Best of luck with your choice.

I have seen quite a few company's running local drivers in areas around set citys. These are large carriers and normally the salary is 800-1000 a week.
Home several nights a week, most weekends and with benifits.

That's $28,000/year, so you wouldn't be paying any federal taxes if you have a family. You also wouldn't be able to afford anything like health insurance or food.
