You guys have any thought here? Trailer prices keep dropping so I think it's time to grab a 53'.
Looking at the Reitnour CK90 and the Extreme XP55.
CK90 shows 9700# with slider rear
XP55 shows 8200+# with forward fixed spread.
I'd prefer the slider CK90, but at near 31,500 with my fixed spread 48' CK90, I'd probably be 33k empty with the slider.
53' opens the market to more loads in total, but not being able to scale 48k would be an issue in some of the areas I run.
Maybe it would be a wash, but 53' trailer loads in general are paying more in the markets I run. -
Cab card and plates done yesterday. Time to go to work I guess.
Ran her over the scale at the pit- 20,140#. She's not a ballerina.Gatordude, CAXPT, broke down plumber and 8 others Thank this. -
I'm not in the game so my opinion doesn't matter, but I do look at the axle positions on 53' flats and think something doesn't look right having that much trailer behind the axles.
You like to run to the northwest. I imagine this is more because you enjoy the trip than that it is the most profitable lane, and it seems that you prioritize enjoying what you do over how much you could possible make doing it. I am guilty of the same. Because of that and the likelyhood of having to scale 48k loads in our area I would think sticking to a 48' would be the way to go.
Just my thoughts from the outside looking in.Nostalgic, exhausted379, Gatordude and 13 others Thank this. -
Built like a Northwest dragline - heavy where the strain is?
Oh wait, that's how a former colleague used to describe his girlfriend.exhausted379, Gatordude, CAXPT and 10 others Thank this. -
Normal 53' flats have the spread in the same place as a 48'. As long as they have the rear slider like that Reitnour he's looking at they can still be made legal in every state. It's the goofy Cali spec fixed spreads that have the crazy rear overhang.
I'm surprised how light that Reitnour is with the slider. My fixed spread 48' Benson is 9900 lbs.Gatordude, CAXPT, broke down plumber and 7 others Thank this. -
Factory 4 axle vocational spec I think they just take the propellers off a battleship.
The curved glass "aero" hood should help with fuel economy. Right?cke, CAXPT, broke down plumber and 3 others Thank this. -
You make some good points. The other thing is I end up picking up and delivering in some crazy places, on crazy roads, and a 53 just makes those tighter.
A 48' with a slider would work for me too. I almost bought one when I bought this one, but I got such a good deal on this one I couldn't pass.
Those 48's with a slider have just been hard for me to find, at least new. I think the only ones I found were by Extreme, at a dealer in AZ, and 65k$ last I looked.
I'd like to be able to run into BC, and the spread kills me with those restrictions.
IIRC, my CK90 is 48' fixed and 8600#.Last edited: Sep 13, 2025

System is selling some 48 slider spread/close tandem. I've been debating on looking into one. The roads around here for local work I'd like a 45 closed.Gatordude, Big Road Skateboard, cke and 7 others Thank this.
