Local guy had a flathead V-8 in one. He sold it years ago. I always wanted one with a 5.0 Ford motor in it ,nice finish mower and cut my yard with it. Be expensive mowing, but it'd be fun. PXL_20250916_002109428~2.jpg

That old flatbed is 1 of 3 Ford 880’s my uncle Herman owned. They were bought new by Barboursville Block in 1972-73-74. 477 V8 gas / 5x4 / twin screws. There’s another setting other side of the barn, and 3rd one is setting in Charleston with a Chicago Pneumatic T650 rotary drill rig mounted on it. Years ago I pulled the 477 out and set a 3208 in its place. The 477 was getting to the point it would foul plugs and start spluttering. The 3208 ran great (N A version) & 210 horse. When it was hitting on all 8, the 477 would move that rig on down the road much better than that 3208. Rig weighed 49,000 gross.

Yes those N series were a large step in farming, Mr. Ferguson created a lift that has not yet gone out of style, and it put ford & Ferguson on the map. After all these years you can find a N series or Ferguson still out there earning its keep….

In the original version, those were called a Funk conversion. The in line 6 had filler panels for the rear of the hood since it was set higher to accommodate the 6 cylinder engine. I’ve seen some nice V8 conversions….

Seen pictures of them but never in person, had actually forgotten about them to be honest. Yet to see one in the wild….
