Typically SOME tanker companies, but not many, will hire a brand new CDL driver. Typically HazMat tanker companies will not hire newbies. There are some exceptions to both situations. The normal way to haul HazMat tanker is get a van, reefer, or flatbed CDL job for at least 1 year. Then when you have 1 year of CDL experience with no tickets, accidents, etc you apply at the non-HazMat tanker company and complete another year of driving with no speeding tickets or accidents. Then, you apply at the HazMat tanker company with 2 years CDL experience and 1 year of tanker experience. A few companies in some areas may break this pattern. RGV is a far way away from most of America so don't expect to find good details looking online only. My feeling is physically looking with your eyes in the area will give you more useful info, even though driving around and talking to companies is not as easy as typing on a keyboard. It's better to get the right answer and not the easiest to find answer.

Hey sorry I should have come checked this sooner. I'm willing to drive non hazmat tanker but the pickings are slim here. The closest I got was coastal but they only hire from approved trucking school graduates which I had never heard of before. I'll check out prime Inc though thank you.Chinatown Thanks this.

What about Schneider tanker division?
-
Turns out Schneider does not have a tanker division here in the valley unfortunately only.77fib77 Thanks this.

I applied to Prime Inc. though and they do have a tanker division here so wish me luck and thanks for the recommendation.

Hopefully they will hire you. If you go dry van for 6 months that won't be the end of the world. Prime would be quicker.
You could always go to Odessa Midland and drive around there. See who needs cdls. Do horrible water hauling. Hazmat out there should be good money. But I don't know how hoping the oil field is.thedeadman and deaglebeagle Thank this. -
Hey so I narrowed my search to either Werner and Paschall. Can you recommend which one would be a better fit for driving locally instead of OTR which is all I could find for tanker driving unfortunately because I have a family that needs me so I can't be driving around the country. Thank you for all your help by the way. Very much appreciated.
