Hopper, Dump O/O's & Drivers

it was 104 miles but in indiana miles thats 2 1/2 hours and this was in jan. i dunno what the harvest hours are but some things are a bit ridiculous like 8-4 as a shipper or a reciever is a lil silly if you ask me, like if these ethanol plants mainly cough cough POET! would stay open til 6 or 7 id be able to get movin on or atleast get a couple miles down the road instead i show up at 4 and dont get loaded until 8 the next morning

Apparently it doesn't make their money to work with the trucking industry most of the time, instead of against it. If they were on board with us, they'd pull the time recorder wheels out of their scale stamps! I'll bet if someone actually locked down a time limit on loading/unloading, those wheels would get "broken" real quick.

Nothing quite like being delayed on one end, and then supposedly "late" on the other. I'm usually professional about it, and try to give a "vanilla" explanation, but every once in awhile - I'll go ahead and throw them under the bus. I keep copies of all the BOL's and ship scale slips in my laptop, and I'd be more than happy to spell it out for them.

As far as deadheading goes, all you can do is roll with the hills and keep the mpg up. The wider trailer has been costing me about 1mpg d/h still, and I hope it improves now that I've had the square tires replaced.

I'm on the fence about the broken subframe, but as it's been broken a good long while - I'm looking at other options. The stress is starting to crack the next subframe member behind it, and honestly I'm stuck with a trailer that could get me an OOS until further notice order. What I'd like to know is how I'd deal with getting pulled for a broken frame, as you can't offload a hopper into another hopper on the spot. Hard to believe it passed a DOT inspection in January - they weren't doing anyone any favors.

 

Yeah, fuel has been getting ridiculous lately, 3.429 in PA a few days ago. To top that off, I was getting all of 5.3mpg bee-lining it to get the last load delivered on time. It still made some money, but the fuel bill hits hard when you have to pay through the nose to replace it. I'll be running my tanks full again for that reason, and avoiding high-cost states as much as I can.

The trailer is going back, can't see having to deal with that mess and hoping it doesn't show up again. That would also stand in the way of any custom work being done on the trailer, I'd be dumping cash into something that just wouldn't be worth it down the road. I'll talk to them soon about swapping it out with a different unit, I have to work on getting back to KS first. I'll try that on my next trip out, but I don't make much money trying to pick my destinations. All in all, they cost me a pile of money on this one - they need to keep a closer eye on their equipment!

 

Mud, thats all we got here. The last 3 weeks have been rain and spring snow storms.Trying to get some wheat planted has being very trying to say the least. Hopefully this week we can get back to the fields.

Local grain elevator wants grain now. Never fails, have'nt hauled since Dec., and now they want some now at seeding time.

 

Hey wheathauler where r u located? when i was on the custom harvesting crew i worked in great bend and hauled wheat to hutchinson just curious

 

i am a o/o how do you get hooked up with one of those custom harvesting crews
