I feel for the victim and her family.

Out of curiosity, why post this story out of about a dozen other incidents in the last year where a truck rams into stopped traffic?

No particular reason. Saw it yesterday and decided to post. The driver is also similar to the one in the U-turn accident in FL. Another individual with a CA CDL who should never have had one

The reason I asked is because this story is getting a full court press push from the bots repackaging the DHS press release (which reads like something from "The Cruicible").

Makes me wonder what salient details are being omitted.

hope not dumb twucker Thanks this.

Why do you always got to come and deflect? His ##s shouldn't be here driving a truck. Bottom line.

California literally just failed an audit that shows 25% of their CDL’s are fraudulently issued… Gee what is surprise…NOT,.. this is another incident that shows there is a major problem with issuing cdl licenses in that state

I just love........the fake compassion the news anchor showed to the parents. I could tell that she was hoping that they would mention his immigrant status. I'm not getting into that, but I certainly was more intrigued by what the father/driver was talking about when he mentioned the driver’s age. He said the driver was 18 at the time. I don't really have a problem with 18 year olds getting a CDL, providing there's comprehensive training. CDL training is painfully deficient.

Should declare all non domicile invalid within 30 days.
Make it a requirement they have to reapply with correct documents

Also any carrier found to still have these invalid drivers shall immediately have their operating authority shut off.

It's enough of this garbage out here.

Why do some always have to post propaganda made to deflect?

You thanked a post that claimed "an audit that shows 25% of their CDL’s are fraudulently issued". That is patently not true. 25% of California's non domiciled CDLs don't conform to the NEW rules - not the rules they were issued under, and certainly not 25% of all CDLs issued. He also doesn't mention Texas and Florida's non-compliance rate. But let's assume he misspoke instead of was intentionally attempting to mislead, just as I assume the OP posted with no ill intent.

Any time I see a 'news story' that is being heavily promoted by bots, to the point that the original story is buried 4 pages deep I become hyper critical of the story - particularly when it is promoting a view point I agree with. Some entity is paying to try and control the narrative and it's important to try and understand the why. When every site that contains the quote about not wanting the accident to become a political pivot point or the focus on the drivers legal status comes up with a 500 error, I start putting on my tinfoil hat.

The idea that the only reason that the driver shouldn't have been behind the wheel is he's a migrant misses the bigger issues. The biggest being endemic use of devices while driving. A couple months ago I was passed by a truck that had a laptop open to what looked like a load board, a movie playing on a tablet, and he was playing on his phone. The truck also had Trump mudflaps and Make America Great Again decals. I had plenty of time to notice these details as we drove in moderate traffic on I-55 near Bolingbrook. If he rammed into stopped traffic, would it be fair for the headline to read "Parents demand justice after daughter seriously injured by MAGA driver"?

This industry faces serious issues, very few of which stem from immigrants. The biggest issue is the ridiculous ease of obtaining a CDL. Trump's ELDT is a cash grab masquerading as safety regulations, with multiple CDL's schools being called out for failing to follow ELDT rules but FMCSA doesn't have the staff, the budget, or the mandate to do anything.

Next up is the lack of accountability for carriers - meat in the seat regardless of capability or competence. Cram more 'safety' tech into the truck because it's cheaper than training. If we would hold managers criminally liable for the actions of their subordinates you'd see a dramatic change in the quality of drivers on the road.

If the standards for obtaining a CDL were stringent, it wouldn't matter the legal status of the driver. Focusing on the legal status of the driver distracts from the real issues.

    OlegMel and bryan21384 Thank this.
