Just wonderingif everyone is experiencing rates going up like the people I know. My Dad and brother pull flatbed and I pull an RGN (only 5 axle unit, not one of the big ones)
A few weeks ago I was called about a legal load going from Ky to Vt, I didn't want to go to Vt for more than one reason, however the broker was insistant that I give her a rate. So finally I told her $5 per mile and figured that would be the end of it. 30 min later she called and the custome agreed to the rate!
This week my brother took a flatbed, no tarp load to Louisiana from Ky for $2.75 per mi then reloaded in La to Albany Ny for $2.50 per mi.
Myself when I post my truck I leave a comment about not calling me with cheap freight, if you bid it cheap and can't find a truck thats not my problem. If someone does call me with cheap freight I will figure it at min $3 miand tell them what it will cost. Somtime we are done at that point but a lot of the time I get the load. (thats $3 mi for legal, O.D. loads vary wildly)
Just wondering if everybody else is experiencing the same thing.
Are your rates going up also?

yep rates are going up but there are still some morons out there that dont have a clue what a good rate is. i sat alot in 09 for the simple fact i wouldnt haul unless it paid a certain rate. stuck it out still did good at end of year. a couple of drivers i know hauled anything they could both ended up losing their trucks.

Rates seem to be going up for flatbed freight in a hurry bin told by many of my shippers there having trouble getting flats and steps but no problem getting vans one of my shippers is paying $2.75 to $3.50 a mile out of the south and i'am having no problem getting $2 or more out of new england.

About says it all...
good post and good job superhauler...

Is it even remotely possible that shippers, receivers, brokers, whoever are beginning to look at the quality and dependability of a small operation rather than just looking at the cheapest rates?
-
i doubt it there is just a shortage of trucks right now as soon as the big fleets get wind of this they will dump more trucks on them and the rates will level out sad but true.JustSonny Thanks this.
